Legends Of Tomorrow Season 4 Review: "LoT" Continues To Deliver On Over The Top Craziness

The season 4 finale of "Legends Of Tomorrow" was in May. Here's my thoughts on the back half of the season. The first part is reviewed here

This season continues to be chock full of craziness. In episodes 9 thru 16 we have:
  • In order to protect Konane, Mona sends him back in time. He becomes the professional wrestler El Lobo in 1961's Mexico City. After the team sets the time line straight, the baddies show up and kill Konane. Mora is so enraged at the death of her "boyfriend" she turns into a Kaupe she calls "Wolfie" and kills one of the men. Can't say I saw that coming.
  • Hank is in charge of the Time Bureau temporarily. He is working with Desmond to round up all the magical creatures but we dont know why initially. Nate and Zari pretend to be on Hank's side but they're just spying on him. It is later learned that Hank was building a magical creature theme park based on Nate's drawings as a child.
  • A magical bug enters Nixon compelling him to tell the truth (which really screws up the time line). The team puts shape shifter Charlie in his place and they head out in a RV (with Nixon in tow). The bug escapes and everyone eventually swallows it-- compelling them to tell the truth.
  • In a shocking turn of events, Hank is killed by Desmond when he tells him he doesnt want to work with him anymore.
  • Sara and Ava break up. Neron tries to prep Ava to be his new vessel. He sends her to her own purgatory (which in Ava's case is a retail store). Sara enters purgatory to try to save Ava. The two work together and resolve some of their relationship issues along the way. In the end, Sarah is able to help Ava escape. I love those two kids!
  • The team travels to meet Jane Austin in 1802. Zari captures Sanjay. He can use the Hindu god Kamadeva's ashes to create love/lust. Sanjay gives everyone sexy dreams and Zari almost married him. There is a bollywood spoof with lots of singing and dancing.
  • I continue to love the budding romance between ever chipper Ray and reformed baddie Nora-- especially since they're IRL married to each other.
  • And don't forget about the dragon (Wickstible). Everything's better with dragons... unless of course they burn your village down. Ditto for Charlie as the giant octopus/squid/Tagumo at the Senate hearings. More of both please!

  • Since he cant use Ava, Neron ends up in Ray's body. Tabitha (the fairy godmother we met earlier in the season) comes through the portal Constantine opened. She tricks Nora into taking over fairy godmother duties. Nora must now grant any of Gary's wishes.
  • Nero initially wanted to take over Hell. Now he wants to release hell on earth via the portal. There's something about downloading an app (Eyes) which will suck out your soul Blah, blah, blah.
  • The Legends decide to open HeyWorld to show the public that magical creatures are just like you and me. The crew does a commercial dressed as Supergirl, Arrow and Flash. Too funny!
  • When Neron tries to open the portal at Heyworld, things dont go as planned. Cue musical number. Ray's soul is released when Nate is killed (when Neron thought he was killing Constantine). Luckily they are able to revive Nate (but not before he spends a little time in the afterlife with his father). Nate and Zari share a kiss. And then Zari is removed from the timeline and replaced by her brother. This is because the Legends never met her in the new time line. Uh oh.

  • Meanwhile Astra is in Hell and unleashes several people like Khan, Stalin and Charles Manson saying "Everyone deserves a second act". So as the show concludes, Neron is dead (killed by Constantine), Tabitha is dead (eaten by the dragon), the Zari the Legends knew does not exist and looks like Astra is going to be the baddie next season. Can't wait.
Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Seasons 4 of "Legends Of Tomorrow" continues to be a delight. The show delivers on what it does best-- hilarious time traveling scenarios with tons of pop culture references. This is my favorite DC show because it has the most heart. My favorite episodes this season includes: the Charlie's Angels and A Team spoofs, evil Fairy Godmothers, magical creatures, killer puppets, Mick as a romance writer, and hypnotic nipples.

I'm glad Gary, Mona, Ava and Nora (Courtney Ford) have expanded roles this season. They are great additions. Also, the magical creature idea is hilarious. I dont care as much for the Constantine/Neron story line. Constantine's a bit too gloomy for me but hey... someone has to create drama. Also Neron seems like your run of the mill baddie. Everyone's always trying to unleash hell on earth. Come up with a new plan dude!

Good news! The show as been renewed for a season 5 so we'll get to see lots more of our favorite time traveling misfits. Praise Bebo! They'll be back midyear 2020 but will participate in the CW crossover this fall. Not sure how that will work but it will involve the Monitor (who we saw in the stands of the Superheroes vs Monsters show at HeyWorld).
