Killjoys Season 2 Overview: This Show Keeps Getting Better And Better

SyFy's "Killjoys" keeps getting better and better. Season 2 focuses more on the bounty hunter's relationships with a few other characters-- Doctor (and secret Royal) Pawter, bar owner Pree, Scarback monk Alvis and fellow killjoy (and all around a-hole) Fancy.

In the season 2 premiere, Dutch, Johnny and Pree head to a thieve's stronghold to recover some stolen tech needed to rescue D'avin on Arkyn.  Johnny makes an almost-love-connection with a woman who has a big ass gun for an arm. Such alterations are known as "hack mods". I hope Clara returns next year.

We see Khlyen's minions try to inject D'avin with the green plasma that will make him a Level 6. We later learn that the plasma is a sentient parasite. D'avin is for some reason immune. What's up with Khlyen letting D'avin leave the planet so easily? Obviously it's part of a master plan.

We learn Pree has had several identities throughout the years. He was once even a warlord? Go figure. I love that guy. More of him please.

Much time is spent traveling from place to place to gather clues. We're introduced to a group called Black Root (but are unsure of his agenda). After his time at Red 17, D'avin has some mysterious powers. He can kill Level 6s (or make them revent back to their pre-plasma form). Khlyen and D'avin have a "Freaky Friday" moment and shift bodies. The team encounters carnivorous centipedes (which are nicknamed mossipedes by Johnny). It's all great fun.

Johnny and Pawter grow closer. They visit her mother (who ends up dying due to one of her own inventions). Pawter takes her place in the royal family. Johnny and Pawter are eventually trapped back in Westerly. The powers that be have erected a large wall and are slowly killing off everyone. We know Pawter is doomed when she says "I'm so happy I could die". Lady, NEVER EVER say that on a TV show... cause you'll get your wish.

Delle Seyah continues to be a sneaky snake. She stabs Pawter after they sign a peace agreement. She then uses Pawter's death as a PR ploy to control the populace. But karma's a bitch as Delle is stabbed by Johnny and left in an alleyway. I hope Delle's not dead (even if she is a horrible person). I very much enjoyed the sexual banter between she and Dutch. They have great chemistry.

Lucy calls Clara and she and Johnny take off in a new spaceship (and dont even notify the others)? That wont' last long.

Meanwhile Dutch and Khlyen fight their way through the Archives. We now learn the full story. Many, many years ago Khlyen inadvertently unleashed the green plasma. Anyone who ingested fruit from the tree were overtaken by the sentient organism known as Hullen. Did these creatures have an arrangement with the Nine to take over the Quad? That's where I'm a bit confused. Anyway, Dutch and Khlyen locate the tree. Khlyen sacrifices himself. They share a touching moment as Khlyen dies in Dutch's arms. Sure I hated the guy at first and not I'm sad he's' gone. What kind of sorcery is this?

If so, Dutch still has to locate her doppleganger Aneela and off her. Apparently Dutch is the spitting image of Khlyen's daughter and that's why she was selected by him as a child at the harem.

Grade: 4 3/4 Monsters (out of 5). Still loving the show after two seasons. And with only 10 episodes, "Killjoys" is a fast watch. My only criticism is that after a BIG buildup, the Level 6/Khylen story was a bit of a letdown. And I was confused about the mythology. No worries though. The show is still great fun. The cast is easy on the eyes, the humor quotient is high and the fight scenes are kick ass. I can't wait till the adventures of season 3.
