In The Dark Season 2 Review: Out Of The Frying Pan And Into The Fire

"In The Dark" originally aired in 2019 on the CW. The second season is currently available on NetFlix. The show should not be confused with two others with similar titles. "Into The Dark" is Hulu's monthly horror anthology. "Dark" is a German time travel show. It's also on NetFlix.

'In the Dark" is about a blind woman named Murphy (Perry Mattfeld) and her various adventures. She sets out to solve the mystery of who murdered her friend Tyson.. We learn the identity of the killer at the end of season 1.

This time around Murphy, her bestie/roomie vet Jess, new boss Felix and on again/off again boyfriend Max are drawn into working for a drug lord (Nia). They use the seeing eye dog center New Hope to store drugs. And if that wasnt complicated enough, the FBI agent investigating the case (Josh) develops feelings for Murphy.

Murphy is not your typical TV protagonist. Being blind doesnt slow her down one bit. She's anti social, drinks too much, is prone to one night stands, and is genuinely unlikable at times. She might be more of an anti-hero at this point.

Also returning this year are: Dean (a crooked cop), his teenage daughter Chloe (who is also blind and is friends with Murphy), Tyson's cousin Darnelle (he was the love interest of Dean's partner Jules), Murphy also always has her trusty seeing eye dog Pretzel

New characters this season include: Nia (the group stole her drug money at the end of last season so now they're forced to sell drugs for her), Sam (henchwoman for Nia), bartender Chelsea (love interest of Dean and later Felix), her brother Ben, New Hope employee Sterling and Dean's police partner Gene,

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5) The initial mystery of the series was solved in season 1. This time around, Murphy and crew are further drawn into the drug dealing world. While season 2 starts a bit slow and doesnt have the suspense of the first. I still enjoy the characters. The show also throws it into high gear in the final episodes. CW has renewed "In The Dark" for a third season. It probably WON'T air in April 2021 due the Covid-19. Stay tuned for further details.
