Secrets We Keep Review: A Fun Whodunit Set In An Exclusive Copenhagen Neighborhood

"Secrets We Keep" is a six episode Danish series currently viewable on NetFlix. It should not be confused with the 2020 film "The Secrets We Keep" starring Noomi Rapace.

Our story is about two perfect families. They live in a perfect neighborhood. The parents have perfect marriages and perfect jobs. The children are perfectly behaved. It must be nice to have such privilege. But as is often the case, such people dont realize how good they have it.

All that changes when one family's au pair goes missing and is later found drowned. Earlier Ruby (Donna Levkovski) tried to talk to Cecile (Marie Bach Hansen) about some issue she was having with her employers. Cecile tells Ruby she cant get in the middle since she's besties with Ruby's boss Katarina. Ruby is friends with Cecile's au pair Angel (Excel Busano). The group of Filipino workers in the area are tight and often socialize. Angel does not believe Ruby would kill herself. Interesting Fact: I did not know that most of the au paris in Denmark are apparently from the Philippines?

A police officer Aicha Petersen (Sara Fanta Traore) is on the case. Everyone is a suspect but Aicha has a hard time breaking into this insular community. Cecile takes it upon herself to investigate. As the story develops anyone could be a suspect-- Cecilie's husband Mike (Simon Sears), best friend Katarina (Danica Curcic), Katarina's husband Rasmus (Another Round). And what about the kids-- Cecilie's son Viggo (Lukas Zuperka) or the neighbor's son Viggo (Lukas Zuperka)?

Obviously these characters are super rich and dont care about anyone else. Katarina has no feelings whatever about Ruby's death, what happened or who it affects. She is everything that is wrong with rich people. She slaps a teacher, she screams all the time and she harasses Cecilie. Danica Curcic does a great job of portraying the character because that woman seriously needs a reality check.

I dont want to say much else about the plot so as not to ruin it for you. I thought it was fun (even though it might be a bit predictable at times). It's a super quick watch. I would be interested to see more of their world but I dont think there are plans for season 2.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). With only six episodes, "Secrets We Keep" is a quick watch. It's a fun whodunit set in an affluent neighborhood in Copenhagen, Denmark. Goes to show ya, just cause someone's life seems perfect on the outside, doesnt' mean it is.
