Hunted Season 1 Overview: Top 10 Things I Learned From CBS's "Hunted"

"Hunted" is a new reality season on CBS that just completed it's first season. Nine groups of two people each attempt to evade capture by 32 ex- law enforcement, cyber security and military personnel. Any team who successfully avoids detection for 28 days receives $250,000. The rules are as follows:

  • Fugitives must stay within a 100,000 square mile "Hunt Zone"
  • Fugitives will be given a one hour head start before the Hunters are alerted.
  • Fugitives are provided limited resources ($500 in $100 increments on an ATM card)
  • Command Center is given only a name, photo and last known location.
  • And the final rule: Anyone surviving the 28 days must then: 1. Log onto a secure server; 2. Withdraw $250,000 from the bank and travel by foot; 3. Winners must depart by plane (or seaplane) from the area.

In the end, two teams husband and wife Stephen and English King and BFFs Lee Wilson and Hilmar Skagfield won the money. Good for them. That looked exhausting.

What mistakes did the other seven teams make? And what did we learn after watching this series?
  1. Throw away your phone IMMEDIATELY. That's the fastest way of being detected. Burner phones are not foolproof either.
  2. Do not contact ANY of your friends/family.
  3. Stay off of social media and stay away from anyone using social media. Good luck with that!
  4. Friends/family/acquaintances may sell you out for cash. Likewise, perfect strangers may unexpectedly help ya out.
  5. Change cars and avoid toll roads (or anywhere there is a camera). This includes gas stations, etc.
  6. Withdrawing money from ATMs is very risky. You might as well just stand in the middle of the street and scream "I'M HERE!"
  7. The simplest things can do you in. For instance writing your locale on a pad of paper that still has the indentations from your pen.
  8. Should you try to hide in more urban or rural areas? There are pros and cons to each.
  9. Don't go to Taco Bell. I wonder how many criminals have been done by either a booze, drug, or fast food run?
  10. How easy is it to hide with a camera crew trailing ya? That part seemed a bit unrealistic.Could the teams have filmed themselves instead?

Grade: I typically dont rate reality show so no score is given. Sure the show is a bit boring. Most of the time at the Command Center is spent slapping pictures on a white board and/or looking at computer screens. Oh well, surveillance isnt always sexy. All things considered, I still enjoyed "Hunted". And with just seven episodes, it's a quick watch. Will we see a season 2?
