Stan Against Evil Season 2 Review: Why Cant Fighting Evil Always Be This Much Fun?

"Stan Against Evil" season two is currently available on Amazon, iTunes, Google Play and Cox On Demand. It will be available on Hulu August 17th. There are eight, 30 minutes episodes so it's a SUPER FAST watch.

In case ya need a quick recap: In 1692, 172 witches were burned at the stake in the small town of Willard's Mills, NH. As they burned they cursed the town's constable (since he was the one doing the killing). Since then, each successive sheriff has died violently. That is except for curmudgeon Stan Miller (John McGinley of "Scrubs" fame) because his wife secretly protected him. Now she's dead and all hell has broken loose. But Stan survives and retires. Well actually he was fired for beating up an old woman (insert demon) at a funeral. Evie Barrett (Janet Varney) comes to town and becomes the new sheriff. The two grudgingly develop a friendship and protect each other while they're fighting off the baddies. Joining them are Stan's clueless but loveable adult daughter Denise and deputy Leon (who is equally clueless). Denise gets a sorta love interest this season when cemetery worker/government experiment abductee Kevin keeps popping up.

Season 2 continues to be silly stupid fun. See my previous reviews here When we last saw this dysfunctional family, Evie was trapped in 1692. Stan successfully frees her (with the help of the Willard's Mill Black Hat Society). Now they're back to some good ole demon fighting. There's a Wraith, a Demon Baby, and a chick who really, really wants to get married. There's also a WerePony (who is pretty hilarious in my book),

The season ends with Stan going back one year to rescue his dead wife Claire. Things of course dont go as planned. He dies and Evie goes back to save him. This is the inverse of what happened in last year's finale. It sorta works but Claire again dies. The evil flowers she was trying to kill take over and open a portal between the Land Of The Living and The Land Of The Dead-- releasing all sorts of demons to terrorize everyone in town. Uh oh.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "Stan Against Evil" continues to be an unexpected delight. The on-point acting, witty dialogue and zany characters keep me engaged. The show's attention to detail also adds to the laughs. Two examples including Evie reading "Divorced Female Sheriff" magazine and Leon later reading "Ventriloquist Confessional". When people call Evie, they always sound like Cousin It. Too funny.

IFC just released  a season 3 preview yesterday at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC). See it here. Looks like our gang will be encountering evil puppets (can never have too many of those), vampires, twins wresting, and some X File knockoffs. The new season will launch on October 31st. I cant wait!
