Season 2 (which is referred to as "Under The Eagle") opens with Harriet Dunkley (Torv) being released from prison. I assume for it's for something she did in season 1. Side Note: For some strange reason I watched the second season of this show before the first. Stay tuned for that review a little later.
Harriet needs a job. She is eventually hired by MP Karen Koutoufides (Danielle Cormack) as a media consultant. But Dunkley knows its really her contacts that Karen is interested in.
There's plenty of political maneuvering at the Parliament in Canberra (Australia's capital). We're not sure who is really running the country. There are tensions with the US involving their actions in the Middle East. An Australian solider has been captured and tortured. Pakistan is being blamed for a military strike.
Catriona Bailey (Jack Weaver) is Minister Of Home Affairs. She's a politician so slippery that she's playing for multiple teams. The government/military is also after a woman named Cal Treloar (Laura Gordon). Turns out she is a drone pilot that has been involved in some bad stuff as part of an operation called "Pale Horse".
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). "Secret City' provides an interesting espionage story that is backed by strong actors. It reminds me a bit of "House Of Cards". Even the intro music is similar. I enjoyed seeing how spycraft and political intrigue might play out in Australia. And with just six episodes, its a super fast watch. Anna Torv as ex journo Harriet Dunkley and Danielle Cormack as MP Karen Koutoufides are particularly compelling.
