Season 2 of "Sky Rojo" is currently available on NetFlix, With just eight 30ish minute episodes, it's a fast watch. Coral, Gina and Wendy are trying to escape Romero and his henchman (brothers Moises and Christian). The women had been forced to work at high end sex club Las Novias in Tenerite (in the Canary Islands Spain).
The cliffhanger ending of last season has Moises buried alive in a car by Wendy (who may be close to death due to a gunshot wound) and Gina. Coral went back at the club. It looked like Romero had died from a drug overdose.. but nope. Everyone on this show has had multiple near death experiences.
Unfortunately the plot of season 2 doesnt go anywhere new. The girls continue to try to escape to a new life with the three guys in hot pursuit. That worked for season 1 because it was new. In season 2 it's just boring. They are one point buried underground in a car (uh didnt we just see this with Moises). The girls still want revenge on Romero when they should just leave the island. The brothers also want away from Romero to start new life with their mom (who has dementia). Everyone plans a bank heist to get the needed money. We see more flashbacks to fill in the characters backstories. This helped humanize the brothers. But same old, same old otherwise.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Unfortunately season 2 was just a retread of the same plot from season 1. Don' get me wrong. All of the actors are great and the cinematography is stylish. I just wish the story branched out in new directions. Coral, Wendy and Gina again spend all season trying to escape from Romero, Moises and Christian. There will be a season 3 (which I'll watch). I'm just not as jazzed about it as I was for the excellent season 1. Let's hope they take a hint and expand the story.
