"Welcome To Eden" Review: Had Potential But Sadly Fell Short

"Welcome To Eden" is an eight episode series currently available on NetFlix. This Spanish series was created by Guillermo Lopez and Joaquin Gorriz.

There is a long tradition of "trapped on as island" movies/series They include: "Lord Of The Flies", "Robinson Crusoe", "Blue Lagoon", "Cast Away", "Lost", etc. The show is also reminiscent of "The Wilds" (currently in season 2 on Amazon).

"Welcome To Eden" begins with 100 YAs being invited to a wild island getaway to celebrate the launch of a new drink called Blue Eden. They are chosen based on their social media presence. After they arrive, five are secretly selected to stay. Their drinks are spiked. The next morning they wake up. Everyone else is gone-- except for a mysterious cult. Astrid and her husband Erik are the leaders.

Zoe (Amaia Aberasturi) is the main character of the series. The other four who join here are: Instagram star Africa (Belinda Peregrin), Ibo (Diego Garisa)n, Charly (Tomas Aguilera) and Aldo (Albert Baro). What does the cult want with these people? We dont get many answers. All we know is if anyone attempts to escape, they are summarily killed.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "Welcome To Eden" had potential but unfortunately fizzled in the end. The actors are all adequate but there's not enough depth for me to care about them. There's also not enough plot to keep me interested. The season ends on a cliffhanger but it's too little too late. My suggestion is check out "The Wilds" on Amazon instead.
