"What We Do In The Shadows" Season 4 Review: A Little Long In The Tooth But Still Great Fun

Warning: Heavy Spoilers Ahead. Turn back now if you havent seen season 4 of "What We Do In the Shadows".

After 4 seasons "WWDTS" may be a little long in the tooth but it keeps delivering on delightful stories.  See my previous reviews here It's also one of the few horror shows to garner critical acclaim. It has been nominated for a number of awards including: Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (as well as Creative Emmys for costumes, sound editing, etc).

For those who arent's in the know, "WWDTS" is about a group of vampires trying to live their best lives in a nondescript house on Staten Island. There's Nandor The Relentless, Nadja of Antipaxos, and Laszlo Cravensworth, Nadja and Laszlo have been a couple for many centuries. There's also Colin Robinson. He's a different kind of vampire. He's an energy vampire. Guillermo serves as Nandor's familiar but basically takes care of everyone and the house. Nando promised to turn Guillermo into a vampire but never has. To make things interesting we found out in season 3 that  Guillermo is a descent of Van Helsing (and thus is the sworn enemy of all vampires). The vampires get in all sorts of trouble because they dont understand how the "real world" works. They've also been called in front of the Vampiric Council on several occasions for various misdeeds (including killing Baron Von WhatsHisName).

At the beginning of season four, Nadja and Guillermo have returned from England. Nandor is also back after traveling to his ancestral homeland. They find Laszlo taking care of a baby. He sprouted from Colin Robinson's body (after Colin died on his 100th birthday). Baby Collin Robinson (aka "Boy") is literally a baby with Colin's face CGIed on it. Too funny. And surprisingly, he's one of the best things EVER to happen on this show.

's

The baby grows at an accelerated rate and Laszlo is quite fond of him. It's nice to see this side of Laszlo (despite him being a really bad parent). Somehow Boy manages not to kill himself. He's warp speed propelled through his toddler years, tweens, teens (which is always rough) straight into young adulthood.  Talk about growing pains. He loves musical theater, Legos, swordplay and of course video games. Just keep that guy away from hammers unless you want your house destroyed.

Grade:  4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Despite being a little long in the tooth (pun intended), "What We Do In The Shadows" is still great fun. This season has Laszlo and crew trying to raise baby Colin Robinson. Nadja and the Guide open a vampire night club. Nandor and Guillermo develop new love interests (but, being "WWDTS", there are unexpected twists).  Guillermo continues in his never ending quest to finally become a vamp. We all know that WONT happen. The show has been renewed for at least two more seasons. At the end of last year, I said "Where can WWDTS go from here"? Turns out, I dont really care... just as long as I can go with them.
