Killjoys Season 4 Episodes 1-3 Review: Oh Gods, We Are A Family

Three episodes of season 4 of "Killjoys" have aired thus far. The show airs on the SyFy channel  Fridays at 10 PM (right after "Wynonna Earp"). When we last saw the Jaqobis brothers and Delle Seyah, they were trapped on an immobilized space elevator. In "The Warrior Princess Bride" we see flashbacks of their time together. There's gambling, therapy sessions, Delle threatening to shoot the brothers if they dont stop snoring and farting. Hilarious! Much more of this please. Also what's the deal with Delle's baby? So D'Avin is the daddy and Dutch is the mommy? And Delle is a Hullen who never had sex with either one of them. I have no idea what it all means.

Meanwhile Dutch, Aneela and Khylen (Dutch's dead adopted daddy) are trapped in the Green looking for the Lady. Dutch is seriously injured. Khylen talks about when Dutch (then Yalena Yardeen) and Johnny met each other some seven years ago. We see how their close relationship developed. He's the heart and she's the brain. They stay together because they complete each other. Le'ts hope that doesnt change.

It's fun to see what everyone was like back then including: Pree, Turin, Fancy, etc . Johnny (rockin some guyliner) is scamming everyone but not doing a very good job of it. Lucy (the ship) does not like Johnny initially (since he tries to steal her). She later grows very protective of him. Johnny and Dutch pose as a married couple to to take down an assassin. Nice tango!

The duo of course solves the case. They then became a RAC team on a two year trial basis. Khylen tells the story to remind Dutch of the tools she needs to win against the Lady. He ends with "find John Jaqobis, he is your true north, your only way home". Dutch goes off and promptly ends up passed out on the ground.

In "Johnny Dangerously" the space elevator crashes on a planet with unfriendly locals. Turns out their organs are being harvested as repayment for debts (so that might explain their crankiness). Johnny is badly injured. Delle suggests using the small amount of Green she has on him. D'Avin obviously doesnt like the plan but there's no other choice. She says she can "cleanse" him later (but I dont believe her). What could possibly go wrong?

Johnny declares he's had an "upgrade of awesomeness" but is exhibiting serious side effects (like turning into a murderous lunatic). At one point we're not sure if he will kill D'Avin. Luckily he backs down. Della is left on the planet. Johnny nabs D'Avin and is off to get his next fix of plasma. I'm sure that's not a good idea.

Elsewhere at the RAC station, Zeph insists she can help find the Jaqobis and Dutch. She develops some sort of jump ship technology to get into the Necropolis to see where they went. An ex Scarback/ current dominatrix named Feruza joins them. I hope she sticks around for a while.

Pip and Zeph have been spending some time together. Those two kids might have a love connection. They have an awkward discussion about their "status".

And what's up with the freaky spiders? Can the Lady control them from the other dimension (and possibly use them to escape)? It looks like one has infected Pip.

In the third episode "Bro-d Trip" everyone finally manages to get back together. Della (who refuses to cow to anyone) tries to keep Prison Planet Warden Clay from taking her baby. Don't screw with Della dude!

Zeph continues to save the day with her technical genius. She locates Lucy. After a rough turn, they are able to access the navigation system and off they go. I'm worried about Pip though since he twitches when near a mechanical spider. Johnny drags a handcuffed D'Avin to the plasma lake. The plan is to go full Hullen. He even shoots his brother. Thank goodness for body armor! Luckily Dutch emerges in the nick of time.

And in the final scene, a crazy Johnny is locked up, Dutch is unconscious (although there's nothing medically wrong with her) and Della Seyah's water breaks. And they need to get to the Armada in order to make Johnny human again STAT.

Della continues to be one of my favorites. She doesnt get lots of air time but when she does, the zingers fly in every direction. Do you think she will officially join "Team Awesome Force" after the baby is born? She seems to have begrudgingly developed a fondness for the brothers. When she tries to explain their non-relationship she says  "We are not a family. I mean, they are brothers. And one of them is the baby's genetic father. And my girlfriend is the kind of sister/mother of their girlfriend. But we do not get along. There's lots of murders and evil plots for domination and, oh gods, we ARE a family!" Too funny!

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Season 4 is off to a great start as we see a little back story before the gang gets back together. I'm sure the Lady will resurface again (if she hasnt already-- cause we really dont know for sure that the unconscious person is Dutch). Good news! "Killjoys" will be around for some time to come (since it has already been renewed for a season 5). I was worried it might be canceled because Hannah John-Kamen is so busy these days being a movie star. See her currently in "Ant Man and The Wasp", "Ready Player One" and "Tomb Raider". When does she find time for everything?
