American Horror Story Season 6 Episodes 8-10 Reviews: Sorry AHS, You've Lost Me

Well, we've come to the end of another season of "American Horror Story". I've supported "AHS" since episode 1. The show was one of the most creative on television and I LOVED it. "Asylum", "Freak Show" and "Murder House" were my favorites (in that order).

My feelings began to wain during "Hotel". It didnt have the same "zing". I didnt connect with any of the characters. They were all tired, boring and sad. Little did I know the worst was yet to come. With "Roanoke", "AHS" has devolved into a steaming pile of horse sh%t. Yes, I understand what this season was trying to do. Yes, we get all the horror tropes. It's all very meta. There's:

  • The isolated deserted house
  • The public's insatiable desire for entertainment (and if a few people die, all the more fun)
  • The show within a show
  • The final girl
  • Stupid kids in the woods (as well as stupid ghost hunters)
  • Self obsessed actors
  • Reality TV
  • People who continue to RECORD with their phones/cameras even as they're being murdered
  • Social media crazies
  • Inbred hillbilly cannibals
  • Angry spirits who seek revenge on innocent people... just because
  • People who will do anything for 10 minutes of fame
  • Just when you think you're safe, they pull ya back in

On a positive note, I correctly (sorta) predicted that Lee would be the last person standing. Lana Winters (from "Asylum") interviewing Lee after her acquittal for murder was a great crossover. And the last of the crazy Polks tried to gun them down was a nice touch.

After escaping once, Lee agrees to participate in "Return To Roanoke".  WHY??? You'd never catch me in a hundred miles of that place. The entire cast and crew of SpiritChasers (I think that's their name) is dispatched in short order. Lee then sacrificed herself for her daughter Flora's sake. Lee will protect Priscilla in the afterlife while Flora leads a normal life. Flora can come visit but definitely NOT during the Blood Moon. The police surround the house. It blows up in a dramatic fiery explosion. Flora is saved by the police. We see the car pull away as she peers from the back seat in final girl fashion. Lee and Priscilla watch her leave and head back into the woods. THE END. I watched ten episodes for this?

I became a fan of "AHS" because of the STORIES it told and the unique characters it created. Can we please have that show back? There have to be more good horror stories out there. If I wanted to watch torture porn or stupid kids in the woods I'd watch "Hostel" or "Blair Witch Trial". Can we get a show based on the multitude of fake trailers "AHS" released? They couldnt be worse than this.

Grade: 3 Monsters (out of 5). Unless a miracle occurs, I'm done with "AHS". The only reason I gave it a "3" is because Adina Porter gave it her all as Lee. I'm glad she's more of a household name these days with "True Blood" and "The 100". And I still love Sarah Paulson and Kathy Bathes in everything they do (no matter how horrible the material is).
