Channel Zero Episodes 4-6 Reviews: Still Toothless

We have reached the end of the first "Channel Zero" story. "Candle Cove" had potential but unfortunately never fully lived up to it. It seemed like a retread of older shows. See my first review here for examples.

More children succumb to the "Candle Cove" show and start offing people. After some investigation it turns out Mrs Booth is behind the whole thing. Eddie instructs her on what to do from the other side. She even sacrificed her own son to him back in the 80s. Talk about harsh! Luckily she gets hers when Marla plants a hook in the back of her head.

Eddie wants Mike to take his place in a purgatory-ish place. He lures Mike there by kidnapping his daughter. In the real world, we see Mike and Lilly lying unconscious in a field. The plan is for Eddie to assume Mike's identity. We assume that as an adult Eddie will just keep killing people (since being dead hasnt slowed him down much). Mike talks Eddie into releasing Lilly. Mike stalls by requesting they play one last card game.

And in the best scene of the series, their mother Marla (the always excellent Fiona Shaw) holds Mike's mouth and nose shut until he suffocates. Mike had asked her previously to kill him if the need arose. Now Eddie has no body to cross over into. It's game over. The brother will be stuck together for all eternity.

Grade: 3 Monsters (out of 5). I did enjoy the Tooth Child, SkinTaker and the twins but overall "Channel Cove" just didnt do it for me. Sure murderous children are scary. But you're bigger than they are. Just knee them in the head and run for it. After a ho hum start, let's hope "Channel Zero" picks up in 2017. Next up is "The No End House".
