SuperGirl Season 2 Episodes 1-5 Reviews: SuperGirl Keeps Getting Better and Better

"SuperGirl" has moved from CBS to the CW (home of tons of other DC superheroes). Per Wikipedia, season 2 episode 8 of "SuperGirl" sets up some major crossovers. SuperGirl will appear on "The Flash" (season 3 episode 8), next on "Arrow" (season 5 episode 8), followed by "Legends Of Tomorrow" (season 2 episode 7).

The new season of "SuperGirl" picks back up right where last year left off. Kara Zor-El is busy protecting National City from the bad guys. She's also still learning about her powers, how to navigate her new job, and her personal and professional relationships.

Superman (Kara's cousin) finally takes a few days off and visits from Metropolis. Kara is delighted that he's around and even contemplates moving back with him. Her adopted sister Alex doesnt think much of the plan. Superman and J'Onn (Martin Manhunter) initially clash. Neither trusts the other. But they manage to put their differences aside to defeat a common enemy.

Project Cadmus is planning to rid the world of aliens (including SuperGirl). They start by powering two guys (Corben and What's His Name) with Krypton exoskeletons. The krypton was stolen from the DEO by a mole. Metallo and Metallo II are born. Dont forget Alex's father is held captive by Cadmus as well.

We meet Lex Luther's sister Lena. Yes that is Katie McGrath. The TV gods are indeed smiling on us. Is she a baddie or a goodie? She seems to be a good guy but how can we be sure?. Her company has a PR problem so she changes the name from "Luther Corp" to "L-Corp". They have developed an alien detection device (which is going to cause issues for Kara).

The President of the United States is Olivia Marsdin. She's played by Linda Carter (the fabulous original TV Wonder Woman). The President arrives in town. She plans to sign a bill allowing aliens to live freely as themselves. As soon as she steps off the plane, Marsdin is attacked. SuperGirl shields the president with her cape.

Alex meets a police detective named Maggie Sawyer. They initially bicker but quickly get along smashingly. Maggie takes Alex to an alien bar so they can figure how who attacked the President. An alien named Scorch is the culprit. She doesnt trust the President's plan AT ALL. Luckily Scorch is stopped thanks to a little teamwork.  At the end of the episode we see that Marsdin is an alien herself. Hmmm. This should be interesting.

Alex and Maggie might have a love connection going. They have good chemistry. Alex makes a tearful confession at the end of episode 5. I'm all in for ship name #Malex. Let's hope the DEO and NCPD have lots of cases for them to work on together. And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE dont kill one of them off-- like every other gay female character on television.

An alien in a pod arrived on Earth at the end of season 1. His name is Mon-El and he's from Daxam (Krypton's sister planet). Daxamites and Kyrptonians REALLY dont like each other. Kara is initially a big old hyprocrite-- talking about alien rights while she hates this guy. Winn has a new job at the DEO and takes Mon-El out to learn about human customs. Bad idea! They get into a bar fight and have to be bailed out. Kara gets him a job at Cat-CO where he quickly finds out he's irresistible to the ladies.

J'Onn heads to the alien bar. He's trying to find a place where he can be himself (a Green Martin). He meets a woman named M'Gann (Megan). She turns out to a green martin as well (which is VERY surprising since he thought he was the last of his species). Megan keeps dodging J'Onn. She wont mind meld with him. Danver and Maggie discover Miss Martin is participating in an underground alien fight club. It shouldnt come as a surprise to any of us that Megan is revealed to be a White Martin (who are the sworn enemies of Green Martins). And remember the White Martin from season 1? That thing was almost impossible to fight.

In other news Cat Grant takes a leave of absence from Catco. Will she be back at some point in the future? James (dont call him Jimmy) Olson and Kara call it quits in the romance department. When Cat leaves he's promoted to her position. Kara is working as a reporter but her boss (Snapper) keeps giving her a hard time. Will Kara eventually prove herself?

At the end of episode 5 we get a shocker. Ms Cadmus turns out to be Lena Luther's mom. Say what? I didnt see that coming. Did you? Lena definitely cant be trusted now.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). So far I'm really enjoying season 2. Great additions with Lena  Luthor, President Marsdin and Maggie Sawyer. There are 22 episodes scheduled for this year. I cant promise I'll watch each religiously but I'll definitely keep coming back.
