Imposters Season 1 Review: Catch Me If You Can

Shows about con artists are all the rage these days. Bravo has "Imposters". ABC has "The Catch" (currently in season 2) and TNT has "Good Behavior" (one season completed). There are obviously similarities between all three series. Everyone is trying to swindle everyone else. There's crosses and double crosses.  The motivation of the criminals is slightly different. "Good Behavior's" grifters are self employed, "Imposters" criminals are employed by someone called "The Doctor" and "The Catch" features a crime syndicate family.

It is interesting to note that this is only the third scripted show produced by Bravo. I rarely visit the channel since reality TV is not my idea of fun... and "Real Housewives of... WHEREVER) seem to be on a continuous loop there. Keep up the good work Bravo and you might win over some new viewers.

During "Imposters" premiere, we meet Ezra. He's wealthy and works at the family business. Ezra's Belgian wife Ava has just cleaned out his bank account and credit cards. She blackmails him into keeping her secret.

Ezra is distraught and tries to kill himself. No such luck. A guy (used car salesman Richard) pounds on his door. He was taken in by the same woman but this time she was named Alice. They track the con cross country where they meet struggling artist named Jules. No surprise. The same thing happened to her with wife CeCe. Maddie (if that is indeed her real name) is one busy lady.  The three amigos join forces to seek justice.

We finally learn who Maddie, Max and Sally work for. If they dont do as they're told, they'll be killed by "The Doctor". Uma Thurman makes a delightful appearance as Lenny Cohen. She is a bad ass enforcer/cleaner. "Imposter" is worth watching just to see her over the top performance. More of the same please!

After her latest con, Maddie (she's now going by Saffron) falls for Patrick (whom she meets in a coffee shop). I wont spoil it but suffice to say t things are obviously not as they seem.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). "Imposter" is a surprisingly fun light romp and with only ten episodes it's a quick watch. Israeli actress Inbar Lavi adds a mischievous lightness to the role of Maddie. Her supporting actors are also great (and I've already expressed my love for Uma Thurman).  Bravo recently announced a season 2. I'm not sure where else they can go with these characters but I'm game to find out.
