Blood Drive Episode 8 Review: "Blood Drive" Continues To Delight With It's Over The Top... Well, Everything

We're more than half way through season 1 of "Blood Drive" There are 13 episodes total. The show continues to delight with it's full throttle depiction of violence, sex and overall absurdity. After a sensational premiere (see my review here Blood Drive Episode 1), I was worried it couldn't keep up the pace.

The race has taken Grace and Arthur to some interesting locales. We've seen: the Suck Bus, the Pixie Swallow Diner (the hamburger is to die for), mutant Glimmers in Steel City, and the Kane Hill Hospital For the Criminally Insane. The team also encounters a less than friendly band of lady warriors. Grace sadly learns from them that her sister is dead. Episode 8 "A Fistful Of Blood" pays homage to the spaghetti western as our favorite drivers end up in the dusty town of Red River. It's run by a crooked sheriff from hell. Red River is on the Texas/Oklahoma border near the "Scar" (which opened due to a fracking accident and lead to civilization's downfall).

Grace's entire reason for entering the race was to use the money to start a new life with her little sister. Now that Karma is dead, Gracie's mission changes to one of revenge. Slink caused Karma's death and now he must pay. They battle in Red River but both live to fight another day.

Barbie and Grace have managed not to get their heads blown off thus far. Everyone else is not as lucky. At least one contestant is killed on each leg of the race. Memorable mentions include Clown Dick, Wishbone, some incestuous twins, a giant monster and "The Gentleman" (when he tried to take Slink's job).

Speaking of Julian, what exactly is he? I thought he was some sort of demon but he is working for Heart Enterprises so who knows. While drinking with Grace, Slink stabs himself in the hand and is set on fire (but neither has much effect). Colin Cunningham is a standout as the delightfully evil Slink. I especially enjoyed his conference call with network execs regarding "notes" to improve ratings-- very meta.

The good news at the end of this week's episode is Barbie and Grace are back on the road. Their "brain bombs" have been removed. The not so good news is Heart isnt done interfering with this lives... not by a long shot.

In a separate story line, Christopher (Arthur's police partner) has been mercilessly experimented on at Heart Enterprises by sexbot Aki. After much torture, he ends up with a webcam/stabby eyeball and who knows what else. Let's just say Chris 2.0 takes projectile vomiting to a whole-nother-level. In a surprise twist, Aki falls in love with Christopher. After a particularly vigorous sex act, she appears to become fully human. Aki attributes it to a kernel boot error and server stack overflow (which translates to robot orgasm). Will these two love birds ride off into the sunset? I doubt it on this show.

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). "Blood Drive" is still knocking it out of the park. The show continues to deliver with it's violent, sexy, bloody, over the top episodes. I also enjoy the killer music and snarky one liners. The commercials for Kox Meat and the Suck Bus app are freakin' hilarious."Blood Drive" has far exceeded my expectations thus far.
