Killjoys Season 3 Episode 7 Review: Dutch's Long Awaited Origin Story

"Killjoys" continues to delight. This season our favorite space bounty hunters are gearing up for an all-out-war with the green goopy Hullen and their maybe/maybe not queen Aneela.

We've know for some time that Aneela and Dutch/Yalena Yardeen look exactly alike. But we didnt know why. Is Dutch a clone? Are Dutch and Aneela somehow related? Are they twins or is Aneela Yala's mother? In this week's episode "The Wolf You Feed", we finally learn why.

I cant tell ya the specifics since some of it was kinda confusing but here's what I got. In flashbacks we see Khylen and Aneela. At some point she is locked in a cube by him. There she is abandoned for who knows how long. She goes mad (but didnt have that far to go to start with). Aneela drains her own plasma and bathes in it. Suddenly a young Yala appears in the same tub. Aneela later says Khylen is Yala's father. How is that even possible?

Aneela tells Khylen "She's the me I should have been if we never went to Arkyn. She's your good wolf, papa". Soooo, Yala is the "good" side of Aneela before she was corrupted. I dont understand how that works specifically but it does mean Khylen is the father of both. He sent Yala on those assassination missions as a child in order to teach her how to protect herself.

We knew previously that Dutch's fiance was killed on her wedding night. She mets Johnny shortly thereafter. It now seems Khylen was responsible for killing Dutch's betrothed. How much bad stuff has that guy done... cause it's seeming like a lot.   Let's also not forget that it was Khylen's plan for the Hullen to take over the Quad in the first place.

Meanwhile D'Avin is off getting ready for the Hullen battle. He tells Fancy he needs 34 pilots for 34 Hullen ships. Fancy objects saying since "the cleansing" (when the RAC officers were turned from hullen back to human) the group has been treated poorly. It's up to D'Avin and crew now though (since Dutch is out of commission for a while). D'Avin has a run-in with Turin but I have no doubt he wll prevail.

In other news, let's talk about Della Seyah Kendry. She was made a Hullen last year. Next she's on Aneela's ship. But Della (fantastically played by Mayko Nguyen) is never a victim. She cozies up to Aneela. This is a danger move because Aneela is mentally unstable and could kill her at any time. But Kendry weasels herself into the Queen's good graces. In fact they end up in bed. I'm not sure how much of this is a game for Della or if she genuinely has feelings for Aneela. After all, she seriously has the hots for Dutch (as evidenced by her continual flirting).

We learn that Aneela is not in control of the ship after all. The other Hullen has been monitoring her for her special powers. The Hullen evacuate the ship. Man, that poor woman gets abandoned a lot. When we next see Kendry she is VERY preggo. Hmm, what does that mean? Is she going to have yet another baby Aneela? The story was written to accommodate Mayko's IRL pregnancy. It should be interesting to see what's in store.

Grade: 4 3/4 Monsters (out of 5). In season 3, "Killjoys" continues to be must-see-TV. Some long awaited answers to Dutch's origins are revealed. There are only three episodes left this season. I assume they will focus on the Hullen battle and an all out confrontation between Aneela and Dutch? I still dont completely understand why Aneela wants to kill Dutch (because she is in fact a more pure version of Aneela and she created her). If you have any suggestions, please let me know in the comments below.
