Z Nation Season 4 Finale Review: I Am The Reset

After Roberta and Murphy escape Zona, the rest of season 4 is spent following Roberta around as she attempts to make sense of her apocalyptic Black Rainbow visions. They pick up Sarge along the way so that leaves five in Operation Bitemark (including Doc and 10K). Sadly, Lucy gives her life this season to save her father. She will be sorely missed. I really thought she was end game. We also get a few scenes of Citizen Z, Kaya, Nan and young JZ in their frozen home.

In the last two episodes the team visits Mount Weather to locate the President to get his thumb print... for something. Unfortunately the mysterious baddy Mr Sunshine beats them to the punch and already cut off both the acting President's thumbs.

This won't work. They need the thumbs of the President at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. He's unfortunately been zombified. The current Prez verifies the existence of Black Rainbow by showing the group a fun cartoon. Black Rainbow is a fourth strike weapon designed to seed the atmosphere with flesh eating bacteria (that will kill everything in existence including both Z's and humans). Uh... the cure sounds worse than the disease.

We see in a flashback that Warren (during her two years in a coma) was instructed by Dr Teller on how to access a control panel (and do a lot of other stuff I dont really understand). Then we learn that the head Zona guy "The Founder" is behind the whole thing. Oh Snap! The encounter is buried deep in Warren's psyche so she doesnt remember it until now. Roberta thought she was STOPPING the weapon. Instead, she is actually setting it off. Does that mean Mr Sunshine is on our side? If so, he's a really bad, good guy. Taking President's thumbs and chucking zombies at people's heads does not make for a good guy.

Roberta horrifyingly declares "I Am The Reset". She jumps on the drone to try to inactivate the canisters. It's the end of the world... AGAIN! 10K and Sarge decide to make out. They've been making eyes at each other for some time. Murph (who is now red thanks to an exploding canister) and Doc watch as the drone flies into the sunset unleashing it's payload (which will wipe out the rest of human population except for Zona). It's a surprising beautiful scene.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "Z Nation" continues to be a hoot. Don't expect a complicated plot. Don't expect extensive character development. In fact, don't even expect an explanation if characters disappear. Where in the world are Addy, Red and Sun Mei? Just sit back and enjoy the zombie whackin' fun. The show ends it's fourth season (like most others) with everyone in mortal peril AGAIN. "Ad Omnia Finem" should translate to "The end of everything... if we dont get renewed". "Black Rainbow" would have served as a suitable series finale if need be. Luckily we get more "Z Nation" next year. I have no doubt Roberta will survive to kick more zombie ass. Kellita Smith can do no wrong in my book. And I cant wait to see what special powers a now red Murphy has.
