Fear The Walking Dead Season 4 Premiere Review: Let The Crossover Begin

We've known for some time that a member of "The Walking Dead" was crossing over to "FTWD". Sunday's season 4 premiere gave us a first look. After the latest run-in with Negan (don't get me started!), Morgan (Lennie James) is spending time alone at the trash dump. He's always been a little cray cray at times.

Morgan is visited by Jesus, Rick and Carol. They ask him to move back with them. But Morgan doesnt want to be around people any more and heads out on his own--by running down the road. Apparently he wants AWAY from "The Walking Dead" as quickly as possible. Who can blame him?

Next, we meet a man reading alone in a field at night. He's a cowboy named John Durie (Garrett Dillahunt). Zombies attack but Morgan is there to help him out. They strike up a conversation. Both are later ambushed by some baddies. A girl in a SWAT truck arrives and rescues them both. We've met the second new character. Althea (Maggie Grace) is a journalist who is trying to record the zombie apocalypse. Say what? How is she recharging those batteries? Inquiring minds want to know.

They get ambushed again but the SAME baddies. Morgan gets shot in the leg and almost eaten by walkers. Next they see a women in the middle of the road. They get out to help. It's amazing how these people have even lived this long given their stupid decisions. Of course, it's again a trap. This time it's Alicia. She holds a knife to Althea's neck. Out of hiding comes Strand, Luciana and Nick. Have they turned into baddies since we last saw them? I guess we'll have to tune in next week to find out.

Now that we have the basics of what happens down, a few thoughts:
  • Timeline- "FTWD's first episodes were at the beginning of the apocalypse. No one knew what a zombie was or how to kill it. "TWD" occurs some time later. Morgan's long journey to Texas may have taken several years. We're not sure how much time has passed. At the end of last season of "FTWD" Alicia, Strand and Madison were on a capsized boat, Nick was on top of a collapsing dam, and Luciana was MIA. Now the timelines for both shows have caught up with each other (at least for now).
  • Location- Morgan walks/drives all the way from Alexandria, VA to Texas (so that took a while). This allows the Clarks to go from LA to Mexico and then back to Texas to run into him.
  • New Characters- we have two new characters thus far-- John and Althea. Jenna Elfman is also scheduled to make an appearance at some point. Let me know if you have heard of any others. Are John and Althea on the up and up? Ir's too early to tell. Not sure what John's story about his lost lady love is about. I'm also not sure what those numbered flags we're seeing means.
Grade:  4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "What's Your Story" is a good start to a new season. I'm interested to see how the new blood affects the show. Hopefully "FTWD" wont go the way of "TWD". I've about had it with them. There's way too much drama and not enough zombies.
