Z Nation Season 5 Episode 1 Review: Welcome To The Newpocalypse

After what seems like forever (it's actually been 11 months), "Z Nation" is back for a new season. See my previous reviews here When we last saw the members of Operation Bitemark, they were in dire straits.

Roberta was aboard a drone which was to release into the atmosphere a bacteria that would end all life (zombies and humans alike). Only Zona would survive. It looked like a suicide mission. Everyone else (Doc, Sarge, 10K and a now red Murphy) looked on helplessly.

Roberta somehow survives the drone crash. A farmer named Cooper (played by Mario Van Peebles) finds her. He says he hasnt seen any people since the Black Rain (but obviously it didnt kill everyone). I'm glad Roberta is able to have a little lovin' for a change. It's been a LONG apocalypse.

Meanwhile the rest of the crew (except for Murphy) is on their way to NewAmerica. Murphy is still searching for Roberta. Underneath that jerk exterior, Murphy has a heart after all. He asks various zombies if they've seen her (but he gets his best intel from eating brains). Too funny!

Doc and company make it to NewMerica. But of course nothing is ever what it seems on "Z Nation". There's really nothing there but a few people with some banners and signs. They want to form a new country, create a constitution and get everyone to vote.

George (Georgia) is introduced. She's an interesting character that can communicate with the dead. Speaking of which, there's a new kind of zombie this season. They're called "talkers'. They're dead but still jabbering away. No, I dont know how that's possible. Just roll with it.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). So far, season 5 is off to a good start. Hopefully the group wont be separated for long. I like "Z Nation" much better when the core group is in one place. There's no sign of Citizen Z or Addie in the premiere. Hopefully we'll see them soon.
