The Bodyguard Series Review: Politics Is Deadly Business

"The Bodyguard" recently dropped on NetFlix. The series was wildly popular in the UK. Writer Jed Mercurio's show garnered the highest ratings of any BBC series in the past decade. So after hearing that, I had to check it out for myself.

David Budd (Richard Madden) is back from the war in Afghanistan and has a bad case of PSTD (which he refuses to get help for).  Yes, that is Robb Stark from "Game Of Thrones". While on the metro, David valiantly foils a would be suicide bomber. Luckily he doesnt get blown up with his two young children watching. Thanks to David's heroism, he is giving the job of PPO (Personal Protective Officer) for the Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes). I can't say too much more about the story without ruining the fun. Suffice to say, being a PPO a 24/7 job. Politics continue to just about as nasty in the UK as in the US.

Grade: 4 1/2 (out of 5 Monsters). The BBC continues it's tradition of presenting excellent police procedures. "The Bodyguard's" twists and turns put it right up there with "Luther". Sure, it has some preposterous plot points but who cares. It's still a lot of fun. And with just six episodes, it's a super fast watch. There are at least four scenes in the series that are tremendous action sequences. I'm not going to ruin it for you. Just watch!
