Into The Dark: All That We Destroy Review: Well Intentioned Mothers And Their Murderous Offspring

The eighth installment of the Hulu/Blumhouse horror anthology is entitled "All That We Destroy". Since each episode deals with a holiday in that month, this one is fittingly about Mother's Day. The tag line is "A mother's love never dies."

A geneticist (Dr Victoria Harris) is trying to curb her son's serial killer tendencies. She keeps making clones of a girl named Ashley. Spencer keeps killing all of them (just as he did the "original" Ashley). But serial killing doesnt elicit the same thrill it used to. Victoria works tirelessly trying to make the replicas as lifelike as possible. Maybe then, it will be enough.

I'm not sure what exactly Dr Harris is trying to accomplish. I assume she's hoping the killings are cathartic and will relieve Spencer of his tendencies. We know she loves her son but giving him more victims seems a REALLY BAD IDEA (even if they are just clones). The safest thing for both Spencer and society is to have him locked up where he cant hurt anyone else. Obviously he's not going to get any better given the endless parade of clones and poor unfortunate neighbor Marissa.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "All The We Destroy" has an interesting premise but unfortunately never goes anywhere. I dont care about any of the characters-- not the mother, definitely not the son, and not the clones. Yes, we know Victoria loves her son-- but she may be as crazy as he is in trying to "fix" him. The show would have been much more interesting if it had explored what made Spencer homicidal but that didnt happen. Nuff said.
