666 Park Avenue Episodes 1-6 Reviews: A Devilish Good Time

Since it's a holiday weekend, I'm catching up on a few shows. "666 Park Avenue" aired for one season on ABC in 2012/13. There are 13 episodes total It stars Terry O'Quinn ("Lost") and Vanessa William ("Ugly Betty") as owners of a posh New York apartment building called "The Drake". Jane (Rachael Taylor who is currently Trish on "Jessica Jones") and Henry (Dave Annable) are a fresh faced young couple from Indiana. Quinn hires them as Drake's new managers. Why a city planner and someone with degrees in architecture/historical preservation need to moonlight as building supers is beyond me. Just roll with it. Things are of course NOT as they seem. There are thousands of birds living in the walls, dead tenants roam the halls, people get sucked into the building never to be seen again, and a ghost girl lives in the basement.

It's fairly clear from the beginning that Gavin is the Devil. Terry O'Quinn is quite effective and does a mean eyebrow arch. We're not sure how much Olivia is involved though. Her daughter committed suicide but not before giving Olivia a message saying Gavin is evil.

Other tenants of the building include Brian (a playwright) and his wife Louise (a photographer). Her new assistant Alexis is causing all kinds of trouble. There's also Tony the doorman. I'm not sure if he's a good or bad guy. Annie is an obituary writer. Nona is a young klepto/psychic that keeps trying to dodge her shrink.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). If you're looking for hard core horror, check elsewhere. If you're instead looking for a fun horror-ish diversion "666 Park Avenue" might be the show for you. The production values are high, the acting is on point, and everyone is oh so beautiful. I'm beginning to think Vanessa Williams really does have a pact with the devil. She never seems to age.
