The 100 Season 2 Episodes 7-16 Reviews: Maybe There Aren't Any Good Guys

Yes, I know I'm a season behind in doing recaps of "The 100". Don't confuse my tardiness for lack of enthusiasm though. Season 2 really ratchets up the drama. The Sky People (what's left of the original 100 kids plus the adults who made it to Earth) have much more to fear from the "supposedly" more civilized Mountain Men than the Grounders.

After Lincoln is turned into a Reaper by the Mountain Men, Clarke/Abby discover how to cure him. Lexa agrees to a cease fire based on this info but she  demands that Finn be executed (for wiping out all those villagers). Clarke mercifully kills Finn before he can be tortured.

The Mountain Weather crew (well, mainly Dante Wallace's son Cage) begins a plan to extract bone marrow from the remaining 100 (there are now only 47). They are injecting the marrow into themselves in order to live above ground without protective gear.

Olivia swears her fealty to the Grounder Indra. Indra teaches her how to fight. Olivia has grown from a shy girl into a kick ass warrior.

Clarke and Lexa (leader of the Grounders) spend a lot of time together and eventually grow closer. They kiss but Clarke is not ready for a relationship. Lexa has feels but she's of the "love is weakness" camp. More on these two in season 3.

There were also several other "ships" including a brief love triangle between Raven, Finn and Clarke (which I didnt care about). Raven and Wick also hook up. Jasper and Maya have a budding romance. And Lincoln and Olivia are still hot and heavy. They are my second favorite couple (after Clexa).

Meanwhile Jaha (no, I dont know how he keeps surviving) and Murphy are still in search of the City of Lights. Jaha will do whatever it takes to survive. This includes feeding one of the kids to some water monster that attacks their boat as they cross a lake. Harsh man!

In the finale, Clarke, Bellamy, Olivia, Jasper and Monty attempt to free everyone and stop Cage. Clarke shoots Dante. Cage retaliates by planning to kill Abby for her bone marrow. Raven is also on the chopping block.

The Grounders joined forces with the Sky People but Lexa did a back room deal with Cage to free her own people. The Grounders retreat leaving Clarke and crew to face almost certain defeat. It looks like Clark and Lexa are going to have some serious trust issues in the future.

Clarke plays hardball by opening the air lock and killing all the Mount Weather folk inside. This includes Jasper's girlfriend Maya. Yes, she is played by Eve Harlow (who we just saw as one of the Daughters on "12 Monkeys"). This seems harsh but was necessary in order to save the others. Clarke later tells Abbie "I tried to be a good guy". Abbie replies "Maybe there arent any good guys."

In the woods, Lincoln pretends to be a Reaper to get an advantage over Cage. He then lops off Wallace's hand and injects him with the Reaper serum. Cage dies. Our team returns to Camp Jaha. Bellamy says he forgives Clarke but she cant bring herself to stay. She heads off alone.

Elsewhere Murphy (I still dont like him) is separated from Jaha and ends up in some cushy lighthouse. All the modern conveniences are there. He sees a video of a man who says "she has the launch sequences" and then shoots himself in the head.

Jaha reaches what he thinks is the City of Lights. He meets a woman named Alie. She calls him by his full name Theo.... and thanks him for his "gift" (which is the nuclear warhead that came with him when he plummeted to Earth). Jaha quickly figures out Alie is a hologram. And that folks is our cliffhanger for season 3.

Grade:4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Season 2 is much improved over season 1. What I initially thought of a "kiddie in space show" has become a compelling sci fi series. The mythology continues to be intriguing and there are lots of fun fight scenes. I appreciate the fact that no one group is depicted as the good guys. Many sacrifices have to be made on all sides in order to survive.

We witness Clarke's transformation from inexperienced and unsure teen to a leader who does whatever it takes to protect her people. Clarke is also one of the few female leads on a sci fi show and, as far as I know, the first bisexual lead on network TV. The rest of the large cast is great as well. Other standout characters include Lincoln, Olivia and Abbie.
