Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 Finale Review: You Broke The First Rule Of Time Travel

Much of the back half of season 2 of "LoT" has the baddies and goodies fighting it out for the Spear of Destiny. It was broken into several pieces and dispersed throughout time to protect the Spear's immense power. One of the fragments is hidden in the US flag pole on the moon. Great idea!

The baddies (please call them the Legion of Doom) are Ecobar Thawne (Reverse Flash), Damien Darhk, Malcolm Merlyn and Rip (thanks to some temporary mind control). Leonard Snart (AKA Captain Cold) also joins the team.

The Legends attempt to stop the LoD by traveling to a 1917s French WWI battlefield. Apparently the blood of Christ is nearby and can be used to inactivate the Spear. Unfortunately the team fails.  The baddies get the Spear due to an assist from Mick Rory (Heatwave) and change history. Welcome to DoomWorld.

In THIS reality, Darhk is mayor of Star City. None of the Legends have knowledge of their true identities (except for Mick and Rip). Rip is trapped in a tiny Waverider in someone's office. Too funny! Sara and Amaya are Damien's enforcers. Snart and Mick are robbing banks and getting away with it. Ray works as a janitor. Nate spews conspiracy theories. Jackson and Stein work for Thawne at Star Labs. Mick rounds up the gang and uses Ray's reality gun to restore the other's memories. The Legion gets hip to the plan. Snart kills Amaya. Ecobar destroys the Spear thus trapping everyone in this reality.

The Legends make a risky plan. They will travel back to the Battle of Somme AGAIN and keep the Legion from originally acquiring the Spear. This is extremely dangerous because the first rule of time travel is to NEVER visit the same location twice. Once back in France the team tries to avoid their previous selves but to no avail. This paradox causes time storms. Well, that can't be good. I must admit to being a bit confused here given that there were multiples of everyone. Name tags would have helped-- PresentRay, DoomWorldRay, PresentDarhk, DoomWorldDarhk, etc.

In the end, all of the future versions of the Legends (except for Sara) are killed by a bunch of Reverse Flashes from different time periods. Sara is worried about attempting to control the Spear due to her checked past. After a vision of her sister Laurel, Sara pulls a sneaky and makes the Spear inoperable. Black Flash arrives (remember he was caged in DoomWorld) and removes Ecobar and the Spear from existence.

The goodies win the day. They have a few stops to make before they can head to Aruba (as originally planned). Merlyn is returned to 2016, Darhk to 1987 and Snart to 2014 (after having their memories wiped of course). I'm sure Sara was tempted to kill Darhk for murdering Laurel but she now knows that time must play out as it should. Amaya decides to stay with Nate (instead of heading back to 1942). Rip leaves the team for good this time. Sara continues as Waverider Captain.

The team arrives in 2017 Los Angeles which is now populated with dinosaurs. Sara says "Guys, I think we broke time". Opps! What must they do to fix this problem?

Grade: 4 3/4 Monsters (out of 5). A great ending to a much improved sophomore season. The writing is witty. Character development and interactions are much better.  I also appreciate "Legends of Tomorrow" not taking itself too seriously. This is a show about time travel after all. Where will season 3 take us?
