October Faction Season 1 Review: Monster Hunting Runs In The Family

"October Faction" recently dropped on NetFlix. Damian Kindler created and executive produced the series It's based on a graphic novel of the same name by Steve Niles and Damien Worm.

Almost the entire cast of the series is Canadian. Tamara Taylor plays Deloris. JC MacKenzie is Fred. Aurora Burghart is Viv. Gabriel Darku is Geoffrey. Wendy Crewson and Stephen Mchattie are Fred's parents Alice and Samuel.

The globe trotting Allens return to Fred and Doloris' hometown upon the death of Fred's father Samuel. Fred and Doloris belong to a secret monster fighting organization called Presidio. It turns out Fred's parents were also in the group. Fred and Deloris' 17 year old twins (Viv and Geoffrey) dont know about their parents secret identities. They think they're boring insurance agents.

It's humans vs monsters with each species trying to wipe out the others. The monsters include vampires, werewolves, warlocks (who live in a hidden community called Harlow) and I'm not sure who all else.

I wont go into specifics about what happens next since that would ruin the fun. Suffice to say, there are a number of surprising reveals.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "October Faction" is surprisingly enjoyable. The cast, story line and cinematography are all great. Sure the show is about monster hunters but the real meat of the series is the Allen family. The kids playing Viv and Geoffrey are great. I'm invested in what happens to them. I just hope there's a second season so we can see what happens next.
