Legends Of Tomorrow Season 5 Review: The Most Fun You Can Have On Earth Prime

CW's "Legends Of Tomorrow" season 5 is currently available on NetFlix. We open with the aftermath of last year's crossover "Crisis of Infinite Earths". It's the Paragons (all the major CW characters) vs the Anti-monitor. Before the crossover, the multiverse had at least 52 different Earths (such Earth 3, Earth X, etc). The 3 other Earths where our heroes lived were: Earth 38 (Supergirl), Black Lightning's Earth (unnamed) and Earth 1 (everyone else). After Oliver Queen/Green Arrow sacrificed himself, their Earths merged into what we're calling Earth Prime. This new setup puts SuperGirl, Black Lightning, The Legends of Tomorrow, Flash, Batwoman and Superman all on one place (which is pretty cool).

There are still some other Earth's that werent part of the CW crossover. They include the following. Yes, it is confusing.
  • Earth 2- home of Stargirl, also home of Zoom from "The Flash"
  • Earth 12- where the upcoming Green Lantern movie is based.
  • Earth 19- home of Swamp Thing
  • Earth 9- home of the Titans
  • Earth 21- home of Doom Patrol.
  • Earth 96- Brandon Routh back as Superman.

The crew of the Waverider this season includes: Ava, Gary, Sara/White Canary, Constantine, Behrad (from 2044), Nate/Steel, Ray/Atom, Mick/Heatwave and Charlie. They are joined on ocasion by Nora/ Fairy Godmother, Mona/Kaupe and a different version of Zari.

The main story line this season is Astra (remember her?) resurrecting "Encores" (evil people from across history who were sent to Hell by Constantine). Charlie is revealed to be Clotho (of the Fates). The other Fates Atropos and Lachesis are seeking revenge for her destroying the Loom of Fate.

Here's the basic breakdown of the 15 episodes:
  1. Crisis On Infinite Earths- Hour Five- The aftermath of the CW crossover. Also, a giant Beebo rampages through Star City. We need more Beebo please!
  2. Meet The Legends- A documentary film crew follows the team to imperialist Russia where they meet a VERY hard to kill Rasputin.
  3. Miss Me, Kiss Me, Love Me- Off to 1940s LA where they encounter some gangsters.
  4. Stay Anything- Two time jobs-- 1989 and 2004 to stop the Prom Night Slasher. Mick/Heat Wave finds out he has a grown daughter-- Lita.
  5. A Head Of Her Time- The gang heads to the French Revolution and encounters Marie Antoinette while Constantine is haunted.
  6. Motal Khanbat- Genghis Khan takes over 1990s Hong Kong.
  7. Mr Parker's Cul De Sac- Nora's daddy Damien Darhk is back.
  8. Romeo v Juliet: Dawn of Justness- Hello Shakespeare!
  9. Zari, Not Zari- Zari's alt past is revealed. Sara becomes blind but is now clairvoyant. Since it's Sara, being blind doesnt slow her down much.
  10. The Great Britsh Fake off- Constantine and Zari arein Victorian England.
  11. Ship Broken- Mick and Lita try to have a father daughter weekend.
  12. Freaks & Geeks- It's back to college as the gang tries to get the Chalice of Dionysus
  13. I Am Legends- The Legends are immortal for the day and try to get the Loom Of Time. Also, zombies!

14. The One Where We're Trapped On TV- The Fates are now in charge of a dystopian world and have strewn the Legends across various TV shows (where they're unaware of their true identities). Sara and Eva as Captain Kirk and Mr Spock (from "Star Trek") is hilarious.
15. Swan Thong- The Legends race to save Charlie, overthrow the Fates, restore humanity's free will and fight off the Encores (again) during a battle at the Museum Of Bad Ideas. They end up fighting with shake weights, a pogo stick, a Flowbee while Sisqo sings "The Thong Song" in the background. Too funny!

Going into next season, here's here all the characters stand.

Ray and Norma have exited for a quieter non-time traveling life. Mona leaves to take Mick's place as romance author Rebecca Silver. Zari from the original timeline goes back into the totem to save her brother Behrad's life. We're left with Zari2. Charlie decides to finally settle down and goes back to her punk band "The Smell" in 80s London. Astrid moves to Constantine's mansion.

And, of course, the "Legends" always ends on a cliff hanger. As they walk out into the night, the group laughs and talks about needing a vacation. Just then a tractor beam pulls Sara into the sky. No one notices. It looks like season 6 of "LoT" has the team battling aliens. I cant wait.

Grade: 4 12 Monsters (out of 5). Another great season of my favorite superhero show. What makes "Legends Of Tomorrow" so great is they dont take themselves too seriously. They know the plot is insane so just roll with it. Throw in a ton of fun cultural references and you have TV magic. Some of my favorites this year include: anything with Beebo, the TV show crossover (which Sara and Ava as Captain Kirk and Mr Spock), zombies, and the final battle at the Museum of Bad Ideas. "Legends Of Tomorrow" has been renewed for a 6th season which should air mid 2021. Hopefully the current pandemic wont delay the show by too much.
