ZNation Season 2 Episodes 13-14 Reviews: Adios Muchachos And Day One

In "Adios Muchachos" Murphy, Warren, Vasquez, Addy, Doc and 10K are still guests/prisoners of La Reina and eScorpion. Kurian says he's developed a vaccine to counteract the zombie virus but its a scam. He's making a zombie army for Murphy instead. La Reina and many of the other Zeros are injected with the serum. eScorpion tortures Vasquez. The Scorpion is apparently NOT apologizing for killing his wife and daughter.

The team is able to narrowly escape (thanks to Murphy's mind meld with some trapped z's). Vasquez and eScorion fight on the rooftop. Vasquez is the victor and eScorpion becomes zombie chow. Somehow La Reina miraculously survives. At the end of the episode, we see her picking up Kurian's still talking head. Warren had chopped it off earlier. The team drives off into the sunset in five El Caminos. They are California bound.

"Day One" gives us some insight into what each person was doing before the zombie apocalypse.  Citizen Z (ie Simon) was a hacker. He was recruited by the NSA to go to the North Pole station (or face jail time). Interestingly, the government knew about zombies before the outbreak. Did they knowingly bring about the end of the world? In present day, Citizen Z has been hacked (poetic justice). Who is still left alive and why are they tracking Murphy?

Elsewhere Addie attends a hockey game where Mack is playing. They both have a knack for zombie fighting and team up. Warren is at the National Guard station when everyone suddenly turns. Good thing she does head shots right off the bat. Doc is a substance abuse counselor. He is hilarious even back then. 10K (call him Tommy) is in the woods with his father (who we previously saw in a flashback). Murphy is of course in prison (but for mail fraud?). Still a jerk, he locks a fellow prisoner in the yard with the zombies. We see Vasquez at the funeral home. Talk about bad timing. The funeral is to be held on Day One. The funeral director becomes zombiefied. Then Vasquez sees his wife and daughter crawling out of their coffins. That was one of the most powerful scenes of the series in my opinion. Poor Vasquez!

In present day, Operation Bitemark approaches a restaurant. There a seemingly kind woman offers them Earl Grey tea. Beware! She is not as she seems.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). These two episodes were a little slower than others. But they're still a good setup for next week's season finale. I'm interested to see if the team gets a new mission. Getting Murphy to the CDC lab has played itself out. Per the previews, we'll see La Reina again. I love Gina Gershon. It would be great if she became a series regular.
