"First Kill" was created by Victoria (V.E.) Schwab. She also executive produces the Neflix series-- along with Emma Roberts. The show stars Catherine Hook as Juliette and Imani Lewis as Calliope. Juliet is from a long line of Legacy vampires. Grandmother Davina is the ruler of the group. They go back to the garden of Eden. There's also something about a snake. I dont know. Anyway, Cal's family is part of a Guild who is sworn to hunt vampires (as well as other monsters). Of course the two leads fall in love at first sigh. This creates all sorts of problems for their families.
The cast is rounded out by Juliette's parents Margo (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Sebastian and her older sister Elinor and brother Oliver. Cal's family includes her parents Talia and Jack, brother Apollo and half brother Theo.
When the show begins, Juliette is under pressure from her family to make her first kill. She lies and says she did but is still suffering the side effects of not drinking blood. She takes some sort of blood tablets to fight off her urges. Will Juliette end up killing Calliope or vice versa? How far will thee two go to protect each other?
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I'm all in for the premise of the series but it needed an extra kick. The story line was clunky at times. I didn't feel much chemistry between the leads. There's also nothing scary here. This is more like a CW series targeting LGBTQ YAs. Sadly, the show will never be able to improve since it was recently canceled. I would have liked to learn more about the show's mythology and to see what happens to our star crossed lovers.
