Sense8 Episodes 3-9 Reviews: In The End We Will All Be Judged By The Courage Of Our Hearts

It's been a wild ride thus far as the sensates grow more accustomed to tapping into each other thoughts, feelings and skill sets. The mystery surrounding who is out to get them (and why) deeps
  • Wolfgang and Kala often appear to each other. In fact, his nude arrival during Kala's wedding caused her to pass out. They almost share a kiss before Wolfgang is pulled back to Berlin. Kala's father calls off the wedding but then is viciously attacked and near death. Wolfgang's childhood friend Felix is also shot and on a ventilator. It's payback for their stealing diamonds earlier in the season.
  • Lito's arrangement with his "beard" Daniela is going well until her abusive ex boyfriend shows up. He eventually gets hold of pictures she took while Lito and Hernando were having sex (thus threatening to destroy Lito's career). Daniela agrees to go back to him in exchange for a large sum of hush money. Hernando breaks up with Lito because he put his career ahead of Daniela's safety. Lito is so upset that he contemplates suicide.
  • Riley is in hiding due a drug deal gone back (where several people were murdered). The baddie attacks Riley and wants to know where his drugs are. She flushed down the toilet. He doesnt like that answer and tries to suffocate her with a plastic bag. She is near death when Will jumps in and manages to save her. That was a powerful scene (and a really bad way to die). Will and Riley (like Wolfgang and Kala) share a special connection and share a kiss (before Will's partner rudely barges in). Riley flees to her childhood home in Iceland. We learn that her husband and baby were killed. She also encounters another sensate who tells her to stay FAR AWAY from Will (and Jonas) or the very dangerous Mr Whispers will find her.
  • Sun is in prison in Seoul because she took the fall for her brother's illegal dealings. There she encounters some prison thugs but they dont know who they're dealing with. Sun's father pulls strings to get her out of jail.
  • We get some of Cepheus' back story with his mother. She is very sick and Cepheus needs money for her medicine. He goes to work for a very dangerous man (who chops off some guy's hands). Scary stuff. I also enjoyed Sun using her martial arts skills to help Cepheus fight off the Superpower thugs (the first time). Great sequence at it cut between her match and his scene on the street. I thought the Van Damme bus was a little hokey initially but it has grown on me. That Cepheus definitely likes him some Van Damme.
  • Nomi (who is my absolute favorite) manages to escape the hospital thanks to her girlfriend Amanita. Is Amanita the best or what? They eventually turn the tables on her doctor (Metzger) and go to his house to copy his hard drive. A "supposedly" brain dead patient of Metzger's shows up and kills Metzger and everyone else in the vicinity (but not before the doc says to Nomi "You have killed us all").
Jonas

Random Miscellanea:
  • Why does Jonas only appear to Will (and can he be trusted)? Ylsa told Riley that Jonas and Angelica were sensate hunters.
  • Who exactly is Ylsa (the older sensate that Riley met in Iceland)? She apparently works inside the BPO to save others. Ylsa gives Riley some basic info-- such as all the sensates in a cluster have the same birth date. But she also calls the love that sensates may feel for each other "pathological" and "narcissistic".  Here's a great article from Reddit that is helpful in understanding the sensate life: The Sensate Rule Book
  •  What is the significance of psychellium?
  • What happens to the others when one sensate dies?
  • All the sensates singing "What's Goin' On" at the end of episode four was a fun time.
  • I enjoyed how a number of characters shared their painful pasts with each other (Wolfgang and Kala, Nomi and Lito, Cephaus and Riley).
  • Let us not forget the much talked about orgy scene from episode six. I found it interesting and titillating (although Im sure its not everyone's cup of tea). Note: three of the eight sensates are missing.
  • I really appreciate how this show provides full fleshed out characters who happen to be transexual or gay (instead of the usual stereotypes).
Why...Hello There!

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I know some people have complained about the pace of the show but I'm willing to let the story unwind in it's own time. After nine episodes, I've grown attached to the characters and dont want anything to happen to them. How will this all end?
