Wayward Pines Episode 9 Review: A Reckoning

At the end of last week's episode, the wall had been breached and it looked like abbeys would come streaming into town. Luckily Ethan made quick work of them by beaning one with his car and shotgunning the rest. Ethan is pretty handing during an emergency after all.

Flash forward to a night scene where Ethan is holding Kate at knife point in front of the town folk (hence the episode title "A Reckoning"). I dont buy he would kill Kate so something else must be up. We'll have to wait till the end of the episode to see what really happens.

Pam Is A Good Guy... This Week

Over at the hospital, Pam looks nostalgically at a photo album of she and David as children. Incidentally, those kids look nothing like them. It seems Pam has had a change of heart and gives a key card to Theresa. Off Theresa goes to investigate. Unfortunately she doesnt know that Amy has taken a turn for the worse (I think she had a little help). Sneaky snake Mrs Fisher runs in to continue poisoning Ben's mind against his father.

I'm Glad They Didnt Kill Arlene

Arlene is fighting off the Wayward Pines Academy vigilante squad (led by Jason). They want the "terrorists" who are in jail and the firearms. Harold had previously given Ethan the names of his 14 co-conspirators. Arlene holds her own... for a while. You go girl! Later they return. Jason handcuffs Arlene, takes the guys out of the cells and shoots them dead. RIP Harold. Kate is almost a goner too. Luckily Ethan arrives and shoots Jason in the nick of time.

See This Is What Happens When Kids Arent Allowed To Play Video Games

Theresa travels under lot 33. She finds an old working computer (what are the odds of that?) and a number of videos (including one of Hassler and ruins of the San Francisco Bridge). It turns out there are other pockets of humans still around. Remember David had insinuated they were the only survivors. Does David know about these other groups or is he just a controlling jerk? I assume Pam knew about them or why would she give the key card to Theresa?

I Guess We'll Watch This Reckoning Since There's Nothing On TV

Ethan tells David he must call the citizens to the town square for Kate's reckoning. Everyone gathers. Now we're back to the scene from the beginning of the episode. But instead of slashing Kate's throat, Ethan begins to tell everyone the truth about the abbeys, David and Wayward Pines. Megan of course defends him saying "David Pilcher is the savior of humankind". She is promptly slapped by Theresa who says "Enough!". I hope that slap was as satisfying for Theresa as it was for me. I say slap her again. And just then, David turns off the electricity to Wayward Pines and to the electric fence. Uh oh. Looks like they're going to learn about the abbeys sooner than they think. Will anyone survive next week's finale? Please leave your predictions in the comments below.

Guess What's For Dinner

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A satisfying penultimate episode. The stage is set for next week's abbey attack. Will Ben get with the program and help his parents fight off abbeys or continue to be a whiny brainwashed teenager?
