In the season 3 premiere a few puzzling changes have occurred. I thought Rip was gone for good. Nope, he's back but with the Time Bureau now. That's a later version of the Time Masters. And the Time Bureau REALLY hates the Legends. Amaya is initially MIA. But she's a series regular so we know she'll be back. All the ruckus last year about seriously breaking time is quickly fixed.
Oh well, it was fun seeing the gang in their everyday jobs. Sara really doesnt like working at Sinks, Showers & Stuff. Off to the next adventure-- putting Julius Ceasar back where he belongs. Next, the Legends catch up with PT Barnum's circus in the 1890s. He has a Saber Toothed Tiger (which sounds easier to capture than it is). Amaya rejoins the team. They battle some sort of totem bearing liquid assassin named Kuasa. More on her later.
The crew heads back to the 1980s to keep a young Ray from being killed. He's found a baby Dominator (nicknamed Gumball). Mama Dominator is none too happy that her child is missing. Luckily the baby is returned in the nick of time. All the Legends go trick or treating with Young Ray to keep him from being bullied. We also got a great ET throwback with Young Ray, Gumball, and Zari riding bikes through the sky.
In Victorian England the Legends again meet up with Rip. He's after a time traveling vampire named Mallus (who is an old adversary). I was hoping to see a real vampire. Instead, we get Damien Darhk who is being resurrected once again. I'm kinda tired of that guy. But his daughter Eleanor is interesting. She channels Mallus and gets all red eyed.
Putting Helen of Troy in old Hollywood was an interesting spin. The men go crazy and fight over her. The women are like whatever! Of course Damien shows up as a Hollywood agent and has daughter Eleanor and Kuasa in tow. Darhk tells Sara that Mallus wants all the anachronism chaos. I have no idea why. I guess he's going to be a Big Bad this season?
Amaya and Kuasa have a good fight aboard the ship. Kuasa turns out to be Amaya's granddaughter. So the water witch cannot kill Amaya without killing herself. Will Kuasa end up joining the Legends at some point?
After Helen pleads with Zari not to take her back to Troy, Helen is deposited in the past on the Island of Themyscira (where no men are allowed). Guess who else lives there? Yep, you're right. It's Wonder Woman's home too. Great tie in!
Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Even with it's flaws, "Legends" continues to be a hoot. I love the time traveling, team interactions and zany one liners. Highlights of the season thus far include: Nate kissing a Dominator which he thought was Nate's mom. New character Zari comforting a young Ray. Sara working at "Sinks, Showers & Such". Baddie Eleanor should be a lot of fun (if given time to shine).
