The Rain Season 1 Review: You'll Never Look At "Rain" The Same Way Again

"The Rain" is one of NetFlix's newest international features. It is dubbed in English for those who dont like reading subtitles. I'm so glad NetFlix is offering these shows since I probably wouldnt have seen them otherwise. A German import called "Dark" is one of my favorites of 2018. See my reviews here

"The Rain" takes place in Denmark. Some sort of unknown event has turned the rain into the carrier of a deadly virus. Everyone in it's path is instantly killed. A scientist and his wife manage to get their two kinder into a bunker (where they are safe for a while). When they emerge, the world has been turned upside down. As with most dystopias, the humans are often more dangerous than whatever they are fighting against. I wont give too much of the story away since it will ruin your viewing pleasure. Suffice to say, you'll never look at "rain" the same way again.

The young actors are top notch. The Andersens-- sister Simone (Alba August) and brother Rasmus (Lucas Lynggaard Tonnesen)-- are the main characters. They are joined by several other young adults-- Martin, Beatrice, Jean, Patrick and Lea.

The eight episode season moves along at a quick clip. The cataclysmic rainstorm that occurred in episode 1 definitely draws the viewer in. I also enjoyed the views of abandoned cities and towns.

Grade: 4 1/4 Monsters (out of 5). If you're into YA fiction or even light post apocalyptic fare, "The Rain" might be for you. If you're hoping for a hard core survivor show, try elsewhere. All in all, I enjoyed the series. Sure, much of it is familiar (especially given the hordes of zombie shows out there) but it's still fun to watch a group of kids try to survive in this harsh environment.
