Into The Dark: Flesh And Blood Review: Can't Pick Your Relatives

Hulu and Blumhouse Television's anthology series "Into The Dark" has released it's second holiday themed movie with "Flesh and Blood'. See my review of October's "The Body" here

It's Thanksgiving and the Tooms family is enjoying some quality family time. Fast forward to a year later. Teenager Kimberly (Diana Silvers) has become agoraphobic. She wont leave the house. Mother Rose was murdered and the killer is still at large. Kim's caring father Henry (Dermot Mulroney) hires a therapist who makes house calls.

Kim sees on television that a number of girls have gone missing. When Henry brings home a unique necklace, Kimberly sees it on one of the girls. At first we think Kim might indeed be delusional. After all, Henry seems to be a doting parent who just wants the best for his daughter. Then it is gradually revealed that she is correct. Henry is the killer after all. Will Kim be able to escape her Father? She manages to hide in between the walls due to Henry's continual home renovations. This reminds me of the "The People Under The Stairs".  Kim crawls under the floor, Henry tries to locate her, rinse and repeat. This all went on a bit too long. In the end, Kim is victorious. You can bet she's going to need a whole lot more therapy now though.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "Flesh and Blood" had potential but never quite lived up to. Mulroney gave it his all as a loving (and obviously crazy father). I never felt like daughter Kim was ever in any real danger though. It's all a bit bland. If the Lifetime Channel made a horror themed Thanksgiving movie, this would be it. Hopefully next month's Christmas theme will bring a better story.
