Project Blue Book Premiere Review: These May Be The Aliens I'm Looking For

"Project Blue Book" is a new series on the History channel. Three episodes (out of 10 total) have aired thus far. The show is based on the real life story of Dr J Allen Hynek's work with the Air Force in the 1950s and 60s. "Project Blue Book" was opened in 1952 and closed in 1969. I read his book 'The Hynek UFO Report" many years ago. He investigated some 12,618 cases. Of those, 701 remain unexplained.

In this version, astronomer Hynek (played by Aidan Gillen from "Game Of Thrones") takes on a side gig from his usual teaching job. He teams up with Captain Michael Quinn (played by Michael Malarkey from "Vampire Diaries"). Their job is to travel around the country attempting to debunk UFO sightings. There are of course lots of mysterious forces at work. There's a woman who befriends Hynek's wife Mimi (played by Laura Mennel from "The Main In The High Castle"). Susie Miller is a Russian spy and I'm sure a deadly one at that. Yes that is Ksenia Solo from "Lost Girl". She has great on screen presence. There's General James Harding (Neil McDonough). He's in charge of making sure the public doesnt believe in UFOs. There's also the mysterious "men in hats" who show up seemingly everywhere Hynek and Quinn do.

Each week the show investigates a different case. With the number of cases available this show could go on for a long time. Hynek, who was originally a skeptic, begins to believe things arent as straight forward as the Air Force would like. This obviously causes lots of tension.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). After three episodes I'm liking "Project Blue Book". Hopefully I'll stay around for the other seven. The production values are high. The CGI look great. Each episode seems like a mini movie The actors are top shelf. Just dont watch the series expecting scientific or historical facts or you'll be disappointed. Remember, this is from the channel that brought you "Ancient Aliens".
