Game Of Thrones: Territories and Houses of The Seven Kingdoms

I am apparently one of the last people on the planet to start watching "Game Of Thrones". Better late than never though. I'm doing a few different blog entries since the list of locations and characters is very extensive.  The HBO show is based on a series of George R. R. Martin's books.

Westeros is a continent north of Essos. All of Westeros (except the land north of the Wall) is know of as the Seven Kingdoms. They hold fealty to the King of the Andals and the First Men who is located in the city of King's Landing. The Seven Kingdoms are:
  • North- ruled by the House of Stark from their castle Winterfell. The North also "technically" includes the lands beyond the Wall but they are not subject to the Iron Throne. The Wall was erected thousands of years ago to protected humans from the White Walkers. The Night Watch is in charge of guarding the Wall. Bastards born in the North bear the surname of "Snow".
  • Vale of Arryn- ruled by the House of Arryn from their castle Eyrie. Bastards born in Aaryn bear the surname of "Stone".
  • Riverlands- ruled by the House of Tully from their castle Riverrun. Bastards born in Riverlands bear the surname of "Rivers".
  • Westerlands- ruled by the House of Lannister from their castle Casterly Rock. Bastards born in Riverlands bear the surname of "Hill".
  • Iron Islands- rule by the House of Greyjoy from their castle Pyke. Bastards born in the Iron Islands bear the surname of Pyke. C
  • Crown Islands- ruled by the King of theThrone from the city of King's Landing (this is the largest city and capital). Bastards born in the Crown Islands bear the surname of "Waters".
  • Stormlands- ruled by the House of Baeratheon from their castle Storm's End. Bastards born Stormlands bear the surname of "Storm".
  • Reach- ruled by the House of Tyrell from their castle Highgarden. Bastards born in the Research bear the surname of "Flowers".
  • Dorne- ruled by the House of Martell from their castle Sunspear. Bastards born in Dorne bear the surname of "Sand".
  • Beyond the Wall- are various tribes known as wildlings who climb over the Wall and raid the North. White Walkers (who seem to be a lot like zombies) are also beyond the Wall. Giants are also said to be there.
Main Characters of the Houses of the Seven Kingdoms:

House of Stark:
  • Eddard Stark- lord of the North. He is married to Catelyn and has 5 children with her plus one from another woman. He becomes the Hand of King Baratheon when Jon Aaryn was killed.
  • Catelyn Tully Stark- married to Eddard; she is the daughter of Hoster Tully and sister to Llsa Tully Aaryn.
  • Children- Robb Stark, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Bran Stark (in episode 1 Bran is in a coma after being pushed out a window by after seeing he and together), Rickon Stark

  • Jaime Lannister- twin of Cersei, he still regularly has sex with her and has fathered her three children.
  • Tyrion Lannister- brother of Cersei and Jaime; he is despised by the other family members. He is very calculating and greatly enjoys his time with the ladies.

House of Baratheon:
  • Robert Baratheon- King of the Seven Kingdoms and a close friend of Eddard Stark since they were raised together; married to Cersei Lannister but her children are not his (but he doesn't know that yet).
  • Joffrey Baratheon- the eldest of Cersei's three children. He is conniving and manipulative even at an early age.
  • Myrcella Baratheon- second child of Cersei.

House of Tyrell:
  • Mace Tyrell is Lord of Highgarden. He has three daughters Willas, Garland, Loras andone son Margaery.
