Breaking Bad Episode 12 Recap: Rapid Dog Bites Back

At the end of the last episode, Jesse had poured gasoline all over Walt's house. When Walt
enters the house (with gun drawn) Jesse is nowhere to be seen.

Walt tells the family some ludicrous story about how he got covered in gasoline and ruined the carpet. They then all go to a hotel (because they definitely cant stay at Hank and Marie's anymore). Saul sends his people out to look for Jesse. He suggests to Walt that if they find Jesse, they should pull an "old Yeller" and kill him. Walt says he does not want to hear that again. Skylar however also suggests that Walt kill Jesse. She says ""We've come this far. For us, what's one more?" Ouch, that is harsh!

Flashback to what really happened at the house-- Hank found Jesse about to light the match. He drew his gun and forced Jesse to surrender. Hank took Jesse back to his house where they wire him. Jessie is not certain the DEA will be able to stop Walt. "You two guys are just guys… Mr. White, he's the devil. He is smarter than you. He is luckier than you. Whatever you think is supposed to happen, the exact reverse opposite of that is gonna happen."

Jesse decides to get the goods on Walt (and/or possibly get killed in the process). Hank lets it be known that he really doesn't care if Jesse gets killed or not (as long as they get it on tape).

Jesse thinks there is a hitman at the meeting place. He calls Walt from a nearby pay phone and says he's coming after Walt. "This is just a heads-up that I'm coming for you. I decided that burning down your house is nothing… next time, I'm gonna get you where you really live." After hearing this, Walt calls Todd and says he might have another job for his uncle.

As Jesse said "He (Walt) can't keep getting away with it"... Or can he?

Lots of cool camera angles in this episode:
  • The shot up from the floor that shows Walt turning the last door handle in his house while looking for Jesse.
  • The shot with the camera at the bottom of the ice machine.
  • The shot of a shadowy Walt down the long hallway of his house. He truly looked like a monster.
Points to ponder:
  • We know Walt is morally bankrupt at this point but he was holding back on silencing the two people that could cause him the greatest damage-- Hank and Jesse. It seemed he was hesitant to do anything other than threaten them (although I previously thought he had told Saul to "send Jesse to Belize"). Now, with that call in the last scene to Todd, everything has changed.
  • Marie is contemplating with her therapist the possibility of offing Walt with some poison made from shellfish. That seems like an easy enough solution-- just invite Walt (or Walt and Skylar) over for dinner. It seems like Marie has had enough though I'm not sure she's really capable of murder.
  • How many times do we need to see Walt in his tidy whites? Get some boxers man!
  • What if Jesse and Walt are really conspiring to double-cross Hank? Anything is possible at this point.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). The noose keeps getting tighter and tighter. Only 4 episodes to go till the end of the series.
