The Walking Dead Season 6 Episodes 1-2 Reviews: Just Survive Somehow (Season Premiere)

The new season of "The Walking Dead" begins with a bang. At the end of last year, the Alexandrians struggled with Rick's killing of Pete (after he sliced Reg's throat). Gabriel continued to be a wienie and Sasha took to lying in graves with walkers.

In "First Time Again", Morgan returns. Yeah! He's not bat-shit-crazy and has taken a more philosophical approach to life. He is surprised to see a hardened Rick. I'm Team Rick all the way though. If you're weak, you die. I dont know how the Alexandrians have survived thus far. There are some flashbacks (in black and white) to earlier scenes.

Rick overhears Carter talking smack about the Ricktatorship. He could have killed the guy but lets him live. I'm sure this will come back to haunt him later. In other news, Tara awakens from her coma. Eugene continues to say strange things.

Rick and Morgan go out to bury Pete. They are followed by Pete's son Ron. It's important to note that Morgan pushed for a burial. Rick just wanted to dump the body some place. They find a quarry full of THOUSANDS of zombies. This is why so few walkers attacked the town. They're all here.

The plan is to herd the walkers far away from town. Daryl will lead them on his motorcycle while the others (Michonne, Sasha, Abe, Glenn, Carter, Nicholas, etc) keep them on the road. Uh, that doesnt sound like a very good plan to me but then again I don't have any previous zombie herding experience. I suggest burning them all to a crisp in the pit.

All goes well until Carter gets his face bitten off. He starts screaming. Walkers are attracted to noise so they start following the sound. Rick ends up killing Carter to shut him up. The zombies are back on track. Then there's another sound. It's a horn blaring in the distance. The walkers change path and head straight for Alexandria. Uh oh. This isnt good. Carol, Carl, Maggie, Rosita, Tara, Eugene and the other townsfolk have no idea what's coming their way.

"JSS" (for Just Survive Somehow) opens with a flashback of Enid roaming the countryside. She writes "JSS" in the dirt, on windows, and on her hand. She also eats a turtle. Hmm, there are parts you want to avoid on that thing. Is Enid a spy for the Wolves as many have suggested?

Carl is making a casserole and sets the timer for one hour. Carol is also at home baking. She makes Shelly go outside to have a smoke. Just then a guy runs up behind her with a machete. Very effective scene!

It's a bloody massacre. The Wolves don't just kill people. They butcher them. Since Pete is dead, Denise is now the doctor in residence. Only problem is she's a psychiatrist with an anxiety disorder. Tara brings in an injured Holly but Denise freaks and she dies. Better stab her in the head with a screwdriver!

During the fighting Deanna hides in a truck. Lady, you better learn how to fight and stat! Sonny Spencer manages to do some damage with his rifle. And oh yeah, the horn we heard during the premiere-- that was a semi driven by a zombie. It's wasnt Ron or Gabriel or Enid as many of us guessed.

Jesse hides with her son in a closet. Later she encounters a Wolf and stabs him to death with her haircut scissors. Way to man up...finally! Meanwhile other son Ron must take after his father, cause he's a big loser. Carl saves him from a Wolf. Will these two become friends? Not likely since Carl and Enid are getting cozy.

Morgan somehow arrives back at Alexandria before the others. He beats some people up with his staff but then lets them go saying "please leave". One of the guys is the Wolf from last season. Morgan, if you don't kill them, they will just come back. I also enjoyed the scene where the Morgan and Carol passed each other in the street. Good contrast in personalities.
Carol continues to be the most bad ass person on this show. She puts on a hood, paints a "W" on her head in blood and proceeds to take the wolves out one by one. I was worried one of the stupid Alexandrians might accidentally shoot her while in disguise. Luckily she survives but has a good cry after it's all over.

Aaron proves he can fight too. He finds one of the backpacks that he left for other survivors to discover. Inside are all the pics of Alexandria. Bet he wont do that again.

And someone might want to tell the Alexandrians that a horde of zombies is heading their way.

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). Perfection! The pace of "TWD" has been slow at times but these two episodes were anything but. Apparently all the zombies that should have appeared on "Fear The Walking Dead" were over on "TWD". Yes, zombies are an important part of any zombie show.
