Colony Episode 2 Review: I'm Doing This For My Family

In episode 2 "Brave New World", Will meets his new boss at Homeland Security (ie the Occupation). Phyllis appears to be running the place. Will and Beau (his new partner) are sent in search of the guy who built last week's bomb. Will's real goal is to find the Resistance leader Geronimo so he can get his son Charlie back.

Meanwhile Katie has been given permission by the government to open the Yonk (her old bar) again. This gives her a better cover for her work with the Resistance. Across town, Katie's sister Maddie is working a big party in the Green Zone (which is not suffering like the people on Maddie's side of town). Maddie reconnects with a guy she knew pre Arrival. He's third in charge at the water company. Will the two become an item? I'm going with "yes" but initially Maddie blows him off.

Will apprehends the bomber after a heated chase. Upon returning to the police station, he finds Carlos locked up (for helping Will escape with the fuel cells). Carlos' family (Lucia and Mateo) arrive on the Bowman's doorstep. Will and Katie help them escape to what looks like a homeless camp (so the Red Hats cant interrogate them). Carlos is carted off to the Factory. He and several others are forced to strip naked in order to be decontaminated. That was a very powerful and frightening scene (reminiscent of the Nazi gas chambers). So did Carlos and the other prisoners have their memories wiped? Are they dead? Are they off to a labor camp? Are they about to become alien hamburgers? I'm not really sure.

When a group are shot before Will can interrogate them, he learns there's a leak. Any ?guesses on how long it takes him to figure out it's his own wife?

Random Thoughts:
  • An alien invasion would definitely cure America's obesity problem. Everyone is forced to walk (or ride bikes) and all the good stuff (including Pepsi) is rationed.
  • Government workers apparently get black shiny new Cadillacs to drive. Way to blend in. Oh, and dont loose that employee badge. It's going to come in handy later.
  • Those drones sure are noisy.
  • What's with the red and black banners all over the place? I know they're for the Occupation but why did they pick that symbol? I'm hoping the aliens arent a bunch of big birds.
  • Per Phyllis, every defense mechanism in LA was wiped out in eight hours during the Arrival. It sounds like New York was also destroyed. That doesnt give me much faith the Rebels can have a significant impact. She also says the aliens had most of the special forces/FBI/police officers killed during the invasion. Will is one of the few remaining.
  • Payphones have made a comeback thanks to the occupation.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A good start to what I hope is a great series. I cant wait to see how the conflict between the Bowmans pans out. They both are trying to accomplish the same thing (find their son) but are going about it in opposite directions. Also, the scene with Carlos et al being decontaminated was very powerful.
