Wynonna Earp Episodes 12-13 Reviews: Freakin' Bulletproof Vest Baby!!! (Season Finale)

Now that's how you do a finale! It had everything-- suspense, romance and great fight scenes. And best of all, neither Nicole nor Waverly (ship name WayHaught or sometimes HaughtDamn) died. I was SOOO afraid something would happen (even though showrunner Emily Andras reassured us that both survived). After seeing so many deaths of my favorite characters recently, my heart was hardened. But now I have faith again. It may not seem like much, but this ending really meant a lot to LBGTQ fans. Thank you Emily Andras and thank you "Wynonna Earp"!

I could sing the praises of "Wynonna Earp" forever but enough for now. Here's the basic happenings in the last two episodes:

"Hose of Memories" opens with Wynonna and Willa slapping around Whiskey Jim for intel. He doesnt offer much so Willa sends him back to Hell. I still dont trust Willa. Next Dolls hypnotizes Willa. She revisits the night she was kidnapped by the revs. Later we learn Constance brainwashed Willa. Bobo had his eye on Willa from WAY back. Curse you "Wynonna Earp" for making me feel sorry for Willa.

Well, that didnt last long. Willa is a bitch to Nicole. Apparently she's not putting the correct lotion on Waverly's gunshot wound.  Waverly and Nicole secretly meet in the barn. Haught kisses Waverly on the neck and says "I know baby". Clothes quickly fly off. They're getting hot and heavy when there's Willa to rain on their (and my) parade. Go Away Willa!

Doc is kidnapped by a "Breaking Bad" type revenant. He's cooking up some poison. Doc knifes the guy through the head and escapes. Dolls and Wynonna find Cyderman about to hang himself. He gives them some intel but then blows his head off as soon as their backs are turned.

Wynonna finds a letter from her father to a "Robert". It explains how the revenants are all held in the Ghost River Triangle. They can only leave on the winter solstice and can only escape IF they take the heir AND the Peacemaker with them. That's why Bobo has been obsessed with Willa.

Everyone in town is at the black tie winter solstice party. Our gang definitely cleans up well. Dolls professes his feelings. He asks Wynonna to run away with him. Her response is a big kiss. Doc picks that moment to walk in. Uncomfortable! Luckily, he recognizes the peach smell in the champagne. It's the poison that over guy was working on. Bobo arrives and informs the party goers that they will lose their minds unless they get the antidote. Bobo will gladly supply it IF they give him Wynonna "dead or alive". Well, this cant get good.

In the final scene of the episode, Bobo and Willa face either other on Main Street. He says "Hey baby, do you remember me now?" She replies "Yes Robert, I do." They turn and walk arm in arm. Looks like Bobo finally has his ticket out of town?

The finale "I Walk The Line" picks up in the same spot. Willa and Bobo head out of the Ghost River Triangle. She has the Peacemaker with her. It should work but Bobo begins to die. Why? Oh... Waverly has pulled a fast one. She exchanged Peacemaker for a fake gun. See Willa, that's what you get for badmouthing your sister.

Willa heads back to town to find the real gun. She ends up at the police station. Willa, Wynonna and Waverly fight over the the Peacemaker. Nicole (who has just been made a member of Black Badge) enters the room. Willa threatens to shoot "Waverly's girlfriend" saying "Why should I care about some ginger butch cop?" Well, that's just rude. Waverly begs Wynonna to give her the gun. Why? Because she loves Nicole. Oh the feels! Wynonna does as asks but that bitch Willa shoots Haught anyway. @#$%%#%^!

Please TV Gods, dont let this be happening again! We can only take so much. Nicole is on the floor. Wynonna notices there is no blood. Has Nicole been a revenant this whole time? Noooo. That option is not much better than being dead. And then what happens next BREAKS THE INTERNET.

There is no blood because Officer Haught is wearing a FREAKIN BULLETPROOF VEST. She says "It's kinda standard operating procedure when we've got a 404 on our hands-- bunch of crazy hicks off their rockers." Haaa, best reveal I can remember in...well forever! Finally someone with some smarts. Waverly cries and kisses Nicole. Those two are sooo cute together. The sisters head out to stop Willa.

Meanwhile Dolls and Doc go to Shorty's to try to find the cure. Dolls gets shot and is in bad shape. Doc injects him up with one of the mysterious vials he carries around. Xavier's eyes go all reptilian and he gets super strong. He reenters the bar. The good guys win. Doll's Black Badge superiors show up. They will help manufacture the antidote to save the townsfolk. Xavier does not fare as well though. He will be charged with treason for disobeying direct orders.

Wynonna and Doc try to stop Bobo and Willa. There's a fun fight where Bobo dodges a bunch of bullets Matrix-style. They then try to blow him up. Bobo is injured so Willa crosses without him. She says some cryptic things to Wynonna such as "I know you dont believe me but I'm doing this for you. No more Purgatory, no more Earps, no more curse."

Dolls shows up and shoots Willa. That still doesnt do her in though. Wynonna then finishes the deed. A very large sand-worm-looking-monster grabs Willa. Wynonna runs over the line and retrieves the gun. Its a close call. She barely manages to escape the worm (who chases her over the line and then disintegrates). Well, that was different.

Black Badge shows up and hauls Bobo away for experimentation. Dolls will be going to prison. Agent Lucado (I think that's her name) threatens Wynonna about something form her past. Unbeknownst to our team, she also calls in helicopters to nuke the town. I dont like her.

Wynonna encounters the mysterious "J.C. or Juan Carlos" we've seen several times. He says "The triangle is not only a prison. It's a sanctuary." From what, I'm not sure.

At the town line Bobo starts to fry. Wynonna shoots him from a distance to put him out of his misery. Wynonna and Doc vow to save Xavier. Waverly arrives and touches the black goo that is the remains of the giant worm. She gets all dark eyed. Uh oh. Someone is possessed. She says "You ready sweetheart?" Wynonna relies with "I'm ready for anything." Waverly pulls a gun on her. The screen fades to black and we hear a shot. And with that folks we have our cliffhanger for next season.

Favorite Quotes:
  • Bobo: "Hey baby, do you remember me now?" Willa: "Yes Robert, I do."
  • "Why should I care about some ginger butch cop?"- Willa about Nicole.
  • "I just learned that my sister has gone to the dark side and if you've been a revenant all along, I'm calling in sick tomorrow."- Wynonna about Nicole.
  • "You are a monster, in more ways than one."- Agent Lucado to Dolls.
  • "I know you dont believe me but I'm doing this for you. No more Purgatory, no more Earps, no more curse."- Willa to Wynonna.
  • "Please... I love her."- Waverly pleading with Wynonna not to let Nicole die.
  • "It's kinda standard operating procedure when we've got a 404 on our hands-- bunch of crazy hicks off their rockers."- Nicole on why she was wearing a bullet proof vest.
  • "You can never really go home again."- Willa to Wynonna.
  • "The triangle is not only a prison. It's a sanctuary."- Mysterious man to Wynonna.
  • Possessed Waverly: "You ready sweetheart?" Wynonna: "I'm ready for anything."

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). Perfection! Now that's how to do a finale. Congrats to the cast and crew for an excellent season. All the actors brought it in spades. I would watch them do anything together.

Willa turned into the bitch I had always suspected (although I didnt think she'd sell out her sisters). Bobo got his just reward in the end. Here's a few of the other questions we're left with in no particular order:
  • What's that giant sand worm like creature?
  • What exactly is Dolls? I'm still going with alien reptoid.
  • Who is the mysterious JC that keeps popping up?
  • Is Willa posessed now?
  • Is Willa even an Earp? I think Bobo was lying to her.
  • Is Constance still buried up to her neck in the desert? And what was up with her two sons?
  • Why does the Peacemaker glow in different colors at times-- yellow, red or blue?
  • What is trying to get INTO Purgatory?
  • What mysteries does Wynonna have in her past?

And while the #BuryOurGays trope is still very much alive, "Wynonna Earp" dared give us a happy ending. For that I, and millions of other fans out there, thank you. ATTENTION SYFY NETWORK: Please renew "Wynonna Earp" for a season 2 or I may FedEx a giant sand worm to your offices. Just saying...
