Wynonna Earp Episodes 8-11 Reviews: Kickin' Ass And Takin' Names

"Wynonna Earp" continues to delight. It's not often we get a show that has a female lead who is a strong, independent, complex character. Kudos to Melanie Scrofano for bringing Wynonna to life. "WE" also sports a stellar supporting cast. Waverly, Doc, Dolls and Bobo are equally as charismatic. The interactions between the core group and the fun quips keep me coming back for more.

In "Jack Of Knives" Wynonna wakes up paralyzed in a bed. Is she in the hospital? Nope. Wynonna has been kidnapped by Dr Reggie from the morgue. Remember him? Reg is working for a revenant called "Jack Of Knives". He's the last of the "Seven" Wynonna has been gunning for. He is also implied to be "Jack The Ripper". Oh and Reg is a HORRIBLE doctor. That was some pretty gruesome stuff. RIP Bethany.

Dolls, Doc Holiday and Waverly work frantically to locate Wynonna.  Doc and Dolls are forced to fight in an underground club. Before they begin, Doc is slipped a note that shows Dolls has been spying on him for Black Badge, Xavier recommends "experimentation" to determine the cause of Holiday's immortality. The two men battle until Dolls is killed. Oops. Have not fear. He's faking it by stopping his heart. Neat trick. We still dont  know exactly what Dolls is. I'm going with an alien reptoid.

In the end, the team finds Wynonna and the Earps live to fight another day. "Two Faced Jack" was a great episode. It definitely crossed over into the horror genre (and would be a great show to air around Halloween).

Episode 9 "Bury Me With My Guns On" finds Wynonna and Doc having sexy times. I'm not sure if I'm Team Doc or Team Dolls. Either way, I'm glad Wynonna is getting a little R&R.

Doc learns how to drive his pink Cadillac (which was previously the property of the Stone Witch). I'm surprised he caught that quickly. They didnt have cars back in Dodge City in the 19th century. Side Note: Interesting discussion between Holiday and Wynonna about what colors are considered masculine and feminine. Years ago PINK was considered a male color and BLUE was considered a female color. Now it's the opposite. Go figure.

The Stone Witch resurrects one of her sons. He is weird looking thing and doesnt last long. The revs burn the left over bones of Jr and his brother. Wynonna and Doc bury Constance up to her neck in the desert. That was a fun visual. Will we see SW again? Probably.

Waves and Office Haught are having some communication issues. Waverly is talking about Shorty's Saloon being sold. Nicole is talking about their relationship. Feelings are hurt on both sides. The two finally get it together. Waverly and Nicole share a passionate kiss (instigated by Waverly) in the Sheriff's off while he's off at happy hour. The USS WayHaught has set sail. I'm all for it. Those two are super cute together. I now worry for their safety though. We know what happens to "happy gays" on TV. Someone has to die. The writers/producers have assured us that WayHaught will be alive and together at the end of season 1. I'm not getting our hopes up. We've been burned way too many times.

In "She Wouldn't Be Gone" Wynona encounters a revenant named Lou. Bobo is afraid of the guy for some reason. He seems pretty wimpy to me. Lou has a commune of brainwashed girls (who apparently can turn into wolves and bears?). I didnt understand that part. Anyway, Wynonna and crew rescue the girls and guess who they discover? Willa (the oldest sister and original Earp heir) is not dead after all. She's been in the cult the whole time. She's currently going by the name Eve.

We learn in this episode that Dolls is afraid of the woods (I dont know why). He's also still injecting himself with that secret serum. Again, I have no idea (except that maybe he's a reptilian and needs to maintain his human form).

In "Landslide" Willa is adjusting to her new life. She and Wynonna start to bond but poor Waverly feels left out. Bobo (who now owns Shorty's Saloon) is up to something as usual. Judge Cyderman is bringing in a number of big rollers for the Poker Extravaganza. Cyderman also procures some green crystals for del Rey. I assume they will be important later.

We meet two twin sister revenants who apparently have a thirst for blood and private parts. They are able to mesmerize everyone they meet (including Dolls who eventually shrugs it off). Does this mean Dolls is not an alien? The girls knock off a few men before being back sent to Hell by Wynonna. That didnt seem very difficult. I thought they would be harder to kill.

A group of assassins attack the homestead. They are after Dolls (courtesy of Cyderman). Waverly is shot but only grazed. Thank goodness!  The sisters lay down some heavy fire power. Willa takes out after the retreating men. She's almost shot but saved by Bobo (who takes a rock and bashes the guy's head in). When Wynonna tries to shoot Bobo, Willa saves him. I'm glad Willa is alive and all but I dont trust her. Something is off. Could she be working with the revs?

Doc runs into Juan Carlos. Juan knows "stuff" like a winter solstice is coming. Doc has to pick sides or Wynonna will die. Holiday is kidnapped while trying to leave Purgatory. How many times have people been kidnapped on this show? It's pretty funny at this point.

On another note, how long will it be before Wynonna gets a clue about Waverly and Officer Haught's relationship? There were plenty of clues thrown around this week.

Favorite Quotes:
  • Waverly: "Uh gotta go. Yeah, I told Nicole I'd see her before the Poker Spectacular". Wynonna: "Are you and Nicole best friends now?"
  • Wynonna (after Waverly is shot): "Dudes dig scars." Waverly: "Do chicks?"
  • Bobo: "You're just a sucker". Wynonna: "Says the unarmed revenant in a coat Lady Gaga deemed 'maybe too much'".
  • "I must leave. My donuts need me."- Wynonna
  • "Do you have a flamethrower cause a flamethrower is at least fun."- Wynonna to Dolls.
  • "I love women. Cant you tell? Every man has a favorite body part upon which to gaze. I love to look at your organs."- Jack Of Knives to Wynonna.
  • "You sir are an asshole...but you are not a villain."- Doc to Dolls.
  • Wynonna: "Tell me about the Earp curse." Constance (ie the Stone Witch): "The details are hazy as that was my demon husband. Revenge for the death of our boys."
  • "When I think about what I wanna do most in this world... it's you."- Waverly to Nicole. Long live WayHaught!!!!
  • "I slept with Doc...And Dolls knows I slept with Doc."- Wynonna to WayHaught.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Sure the plot is a bit all over the place. Sure the premise is completely outlandish. I dont care. "Wynonna Earp" is still a hoot. Sadly, we only have two episodes to go. I REALLY, REALLY hope SyFy renews the show for a season 2.
