Black Lightning Season 2 Winter Finale Review: Jennifer & Khalil Are Still On The Run

"Black Lightning" will return with episode 10 on January 21, 2019. So now might be a good time to check in. Here's what happened in the latest episode “The Book of Rebellion: Chapter Two- Gift of the Magi”.

Jennifer/ Lightning and Khalil/Painkiller (sans dreds) are on the run. Oh, to be young, in love and have super powers. Tobias has a bounty on Khalil's head. Jeff/ Black Lightning, Anissa/ Thunder, Gambi and Lynn are out looking for them. They visit Khalil's aunt, mother and father. No one knows where he is.

Khalil becomes very sick from the poison on the blade of Giselle Cutter's knife. I guess she's meant to take Cyanide's place. Jennifer tortures Cutter for intel and manages to get some meds to help Khalil. He gets better and tells Jen she should go home to her family. Jen says "no" and stands by her man.

Looks like new guy Todd Green will join up with Tobias. And there's some sort of mysterious teleporting meta who has an assassination job to do in Freeland. What is he up to?

All in all, the episode was OK but I was hoping for a cliffhanger before the winter break. I have enjoying watching Jennifer get in touch with her powers this season. I'm also glad that Gambi, who was feared dead earlier in the season, is very much alive.

I'm hoping we can see more of Grace soon. Anissa tries to get closer but she's afraid of being hurt. Is Grace a metahuman? What is she transforming into? She was an Amazonian in the comics. And what about everyone else we've met this season. Will they be back? Looker (racist chick who controls everyone with some silvery substance) and her minions (known as the Sange) are still around arent they?

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). An OK episode but I was hoping for a bit more to tide us over until the show returns. I'm still enjoying the show. "Black Lightning" and "Legends Of Tomorrow" are my two favorite CW offerings.
