Doomsday Preppers Season 2 Episodes 1-5 Recaps: The Rule of 3s (3 Days Without Water 3 Weeks Without Food)

Just caught up on all episodes of Doomsday Preppers season 2 to date (episodes 1 thru 5). For those of you not familiar with the show, it airs on the National Geographic channel on Tuesdays at 9 PM ET. Each episode includes 3 separate stories about a prepper and his or her prepping plans. This season preppers are evaluated on 5 factors including: food, water, shelter, security and  “x-factor” and estimated amount of initial survival time.

What I've learned:
  • In the event of a divorce, it's good to have a prenup that lists who gets what supplies.
  • Hyper redundancy is my new catch phrase.
  • In a pinch you can drink rattlesnake blood.
  • Preppers with medical issues need to take special care in planning (such as keeping insulin cold and stock piling medications).
  • What good is having a bug out shelter if you can't get to it?
  • Remember the "rule of 3s". You can survive-- 3 minutes without breathing (drowning, asphyxiation), 3 hours without shelter in an extreme environment (exposure), 3 days without water (dehydration), 3 weeks without food (starvation)
  • How to make pepper spray-- chili pepper and lime juice delivered via super soakers.
  • If you don't have money for prepping, start an adult website (not!) and raise lizards (maybe).
  • It might be a good idea to let your mail order bride know ahead of time that you plan to live in a RV in the woods instead of an actual house.
  • Do not fire your AR-15 in a blind and cause your buddy to temporarily lose his hearing.
  • How much money does John for episode 5 have and does he live in that big house all alone? I want to go prep with him. PS When he bugged out he didn't take his other dog.
  • I'm not sure about flying a plane after a volcano erupts but its a great skill to have.
