Defiance Season 3 Epi 3 Review: Come With Me If You Want To Live

"Broken Bough" keeps up the suspense as the Tarrs are secretly working for the VC in order to save Alak's life. Stahma sets up a secret communications link from Defiance to the general. Datak releases hellbugs (I think) in the armory. Now the town is without most of its weapons because the bugs ate them. And we learn that Rahm wants the couple to blow up the St Louis arch. Will the Tarrs really sell out their human neighbors? Knowing them, probably, but it will still be fun to watch.

Nolan and Irisa head out of town to head off General Tahk before he can get to Defiance. The father/daughter team plan to also seek revenge for the McCawleys murders. Rahm knows of Nolan's previous massacre (as he calls it) of the VC during the war.

If A Terminator Cant Kill Me, Neither Can You

Irisa and Nolan are attacked by Rahm's men but Pilar saves them saying "Come with me if you want to live" (great calback to "Terminator"). At her temporarily lodging place, Pilar gives them a big line about how she found a half Casti baby. No one's buying it. She also tries to shoot Nolan but thank goodness the gun was disabled. While Irisa sneaks into the VC camp, Nolan shoots Pilar point blank. We didnt see her body after that. I assume she is dead-- but I would think it takes more than that to kill Pilar. She's a tough old bird.

Nola manages to wipe out a large number of  VC. Irisa has Tahk but cant bring herself to kill him. She is hesitant to fight after her experiences last season. You can bet that Tahk will not repay her kindness. Nolan and Irisa take baby Luke home to the Tarrs (who are very grateful to see him).

Once You Got Omec, You Never Go Back

The Omec are my new favorite species. They're purple cannibals but may be a little more civilized than we previously thought. We do know that they are very loyal to their relatives. Stahma encounters T'evgin in the market. She puts the moves on him (cause that's what Stahma does to everybody). She speaks a little Omec. She also warms him to the idea of learning more about Earthlings. She confesses that she loathed humans until she fell in love with one (Kenya). Of course we know how that ended.

I also enjoyed Amanda's confronting Datak about Kenya's death. Amanda says something about forgiveness and moving forward for the sake of the town. That seems too easy. She still needs to put a bullet in Datak at a later date though.

Fun Parts:
  • Nolan and Irisa bantering about the pulp fiction book "Amazing Goddess of the Badlands" that depicts her as the heroine.
  • T'evgin tried to figure out the earth children toys (did you also see the hellbug plushies?) at the market.
  • Datak and Stahma being their usual devious selves in order to carry out the VCs plans.
  • Irisa: "We cant leave a baby." Nolan: "Why not? He's happy." Irisa: "He's a baby."

Favorite Quotes:
  • "Come with me if you want to live"- Pilar (reprising a great line from "Terminator").
  • "We're at war kiddo and you've become an unreliable partner."- Nolan to Irisa.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I love the Omecs. I wish they had a spinoff of their own. And the Tarrs continue to be fascinating to watch. I love their scheming. And I've said it many times before but Jaime Murray can do no wrong.
