Orphan Black Season 3 Episode 10 Review: Whhhhhhyyyyyyy????? (Season Finale)

It has been four days since the season 3 "Orphan Black" finale entitled "History Yet To Be Written". And yes, I am STILL processing. The show had a lot of great reveals and a very shocking ending. First, let's review the good stuff.

Alison won her election for school trustee. Alison and Donnie have been a breathe of fresh air. Their twerking scene was one of the highlights of the entire season. Donnie gives Helena a thank you gift for solving their "drug problem". He locates her boyfriend. She affectionately refers to him as "Jesse Towing" (cause that's what is written on the side of the truck). How sweet. Helena deserves some happiness. They start to make out but Helena gets a message that she's needed by the sestras. It seems Rudy is following Alison's school bus. Helena corners Rudy in the garage. She tapes a knife to her hand with duct tape. Prison rules! The girl means business. She kicks the roll of tape and hits Rudy squarely in the head. Hilarious. They fight. Helena puts a screwdriver through Rudy's arm. He glitches on the floor. She lays next time. Rudy is not long for this world.

Mrs S's interactions with her mother were also fascinating. Mrs S was like "OK, so if the Castors show up, I've got to put ya in this vat of sulfuric acid...no hard feelings." They eventually have a heart to heart. Years ago Kendall arranged for young Sarah to end up with Mrs S. Apparently Kendall felt bad about killing Mrs S's husband John. We're still not sure of the specifics of that.

Delphine brokers a meeting between Ferdinand and Sarah. They will give him some genetic material from Kendall in exchange for Ferd knocking off the Castors. Mark is also beaten up in order to trick Virginia into thinking he's Rudy. Looks like it's bye bye Dr Coady.

Does This Thing Have A Zoom On It?

Rachel wakes up in an undisclosed location with what looks like a bionic eye. She is eventually joined by young clone Charlotte. Rachel will be Charlotte's new mother. And guess who else is back? It's Susan Duncan-- the woman Rachel considers to be her mother. What is she up to? I'm sure its no good.

Worm Man

Thanks to her excellent manicure, Delphine ascertains that the comatose Rachel is actually Krystal. Dr Nealon tells Delphine that the Neolutionists were behind Castor, Leda and Topside. Who can even keep track at this point? He then attacks Delphine. Some weird worm comes out of his mouth. Delphine shoots him and immediately calls Sarah. She tells Sarah NOT to give the genetic material to Ferdinand. But luckily for the clones, Ferd H-A-T-E-S Neolutionists. When he finds out the guy with him is one, Ferdinand beats him to death with a baseball bat. Then Ferd shoves him into Mrs S's sulfuric acid bath. Ferdinand is now fully TeamClone.

Whole Lotta Clones

There is typically a big clone scene at the end of each season. Last year it was the clone dance party. This year it's a dinner with all the clones (minus Krystal and Rachel). They are joined by Mrs S, Felix, Art and Donnie. They do a test to Beth (who brought them all together).

It Appears My Ship Has Sunk

Meanwhile Delphine visits Shay (who I still dont trust) and asks her to look after Cosima. Delphine next meets Cosima on the street while everyone else is eating. She says goodbye and passionately kisses Cosima. Uh, oh. Something BAD is about to happen. Delphine is in a parking garage at Dyad. No good things ever happen in deserted garages. She turns to someone and says "What will happen to her?". Delphine is then shot in the stomach. Noooooooo! We last see Delphine on the ground bleeding.

Please Let This Be A Bad Dream

I would like to believe that Delphine lives but it's not looking good. If she really is dead, I think "Orphan Black" made a big misstep. Cophine is one of the best things about the show.  Maybe the Neolutionists will turn Delphine into some weird hybrid monster and Cosima can save her next season. If I was writing this show, that's what I would do.

And in the final scene, Sarah, Mrs S and Kendall travel to Iceland and are reunited with Kira. Kendall is going to hide out there for a while too.

Favorite Quotes:
  • "You're winding down like toy"- Helena to Rudy before he dies.
  • "We're everywhere"- Neolutionists to Ferdinand before he beats him to death with a baseball bat.
  • "They're like ticks. You never know when you've got one on you."- Ferd about the Neolutionists.
  • "What will happen to her?"-Delphine to her killer.

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). All in all, an excellent finale. Instead of the typical "everyone is in jeopardy" cliffhanger, season 3 ended on a hopeful note for MOST of the characters. Looks like Mrs S wont kill Kendall after all. Sarah and Kira are reunited. Kyrstal lives. The reintroduction of the Neolutionists and "the worm" may be interesting. I'm hoping to see some bizarro mutants next year.  Hopefully this brings an end to the Castor story line (even though Mark lives). I dont think the boy clones ever gelled into true adversaries. I am still upset about Delphine though. If she is dead, my interest in watching the show has been lessened. "Orphan Black" writers: Just a friendly reminder that the Cophine fans are the most hard core followers of this show. Please dont screw us over.
