Scream Season 1 Episodes 6-10 Reviews: And The Killer Is... (Season Finale)

The death toll mounts as Emma and company run for their lives. There are a few close calls (and several more murders) before the finale. For some reason they decide to attend a costume Halloween party-- cause that's what ya do when a serial killer is on the loose. And just to make the stakes higher, everyone should head over to Brooke's alternative party afterwards. That makes it more convenient for Ghostface.

At Brooke's, some random kid is killed in the bathroom. Audrey is attacked. We think she's a goner but nope. Hmmm. Next Mr Branson shows up and tries to tell Brooke he's innocent. She's having none of it. Then the real killer shows up and chases her into the garage. She hides in a freezer. Really bad idea Brooke! Watching the killer try to stab her through it was fun though.

Next Ghostface calls to tell Emma she's holding her mother hostage at the dock where Brandon James was killed. Emma rushes to her aid.

It's time for the big reveal. The killer is none other than Piper. She is Emma's half sister and Maggie and Brandon's love child. Piper says she's jealous of Emma's perfect life and thus sought revenge. Seems like a pretty flimsy motive and a LOT of work... but no one asked me.

A fight ensues. Piper is about to get the upper hand when Emma shoots her...and then Audrey shoots her again (because the killer is never really dead).

Is it over? Nope. In the last scene we see Audrey had been corresponding with Piper for some time. She's trying to burn the evidence. Is there more than one killer? There has to be someone else involved. Remember when Piper and Will were attacked? Hmmm, the plot thickens. We'll have to wait till season 2 to find out. For our records there are six surviving kids heading into next year. The "Lakewood Six" are: Emma, Audrey, Noah, Brooke, Kieran, and Jake.

Nina- killed in her pool
Tyler- lost his head, burned body later found after a fiery car crash
Rachel- Audrey's girlfriend- hung from a bannister
Riley- killed on the police station's roof
Will- cut in half by farm equipment after Emma tripped a wire. Eeek!
Deputy Roberts- nobody care
Sheriff Hudson- lost his innards after Maggie/Daisy untied him
Random cops watching Mr Branson in jail
Random kid at Brooke's house
Piper Shaw/Ghostface- shot at the lake first by Emma and then by Audrey

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). "Scream's" target demographic is the younger crowd--so dont expect any heavy duty gore. There are a few good scares though. The show is very meta. All in all, I enjoyed trying to figure out the mystery.

Two criticisms though of the finale. 1. It could have been more hard hitting. I was hoping for an epic battle between Emma and Piper. Unfortunately that didnt materialize. 2. The death count was also WAY too low. Get rid of some of those annoying kids.

I enjoyed "Scream" much more than I had anticipated. I'll be tuning in for season 2.
