Fear The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 9 Review: It's Raining [Dead] Men

I had hoped we'd get a break from Nick in "Los Muertos" (The Dead). But no such luck. Nick is back and dumber than ever. Luciana takes him on a grocery run in Tijuana. The supermarket is controlled by a gang. Their leader is Marco. Luciana trades them oxy for food and water. It turns out Alejandro is a pharmacist and not a doctor.

Nick stashes some Mexican Twinkies down his pants. Surprise! He's caught. The gang wants to chop off his hand for stealing. Nick thinks fast and says they wont get any more drugs if they do. Oh yeah, they want another grocery cart of water too. Nick definitely leads a charmed existence. In real life, he would be missing an appendage and possibly his head. Mexican gang members arent big on backtalk.

Yes I know Nick wanted the snack cakes for the little girl whose father just sacrificed himself to the walkers. Yes, that's a kind gesture. But come on Nick. Get a brain. Maybe you should try one of the zombie's. Nick can't stay out of trouble for five minutes.

He's found himself in yet another cult with Alejandro and "The Children Of The Resurrection". Allejandro says he was bitten by the undead but did not turn. Do we believe him? Everyone else in town does. I'm also wondering what they hope to accomplish with the wall of zombies? They arent any less likely to eat the living just because they're related to them.

In other news, Strand, Madison, Alicia and Ophelia decide to hold up in a (hopefully) abandoned hotel. Madison and Strand saddle up to the bar. Madison confesses that her husband committed suicide (although she told the kids he died in a car accident). Nick is just like his father-- another lost soul that she can't save.

Maddie gets drunk and starts smashing glasses. Strand decides to play the piano. Meanwhile Alicia and Ofelia go room to room looking for supplies. They find a guy who tried to off himself. Ofelia sympathizes with the zombie. What else does she have to live for since her parents are dead? Alicia says "You have me for what it's worth ya know. We're you're family now." Ofelia doesnt sound too convinced.

Alicia wakes up from a nap and Ofelia is gone. Surely she isn't dead...is she? Alicia steps out on the balcony and is almost beaned by a zombie falling from the room above. Walkers throughout the hotel are flinging themselves out of windows and off balconies to get to the source of the sound (which is Strand playing the piano). At the end of the episode zombies have surround Strand and Madison. They're in quite a pickle.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Yes, I continue to be frustrated with the pace of "FTWD". And I know I'm not the only one. At least we got some good zombies action. Walkers plummeting to the ground was great fun.  I've also seen enough of Nick though to last me a good long time. Please focus on someone else for a while. From the previews it looks like we'll see Travis next week. I'm not sure about Chris.
