Z Nation Season 4 Episode 10 Review: Frenemies & Lovers

One of the many things I love about "Z Nation" is that it doesnt pretend to be something it's not. They're not doing Shakespeare here. They're whacking zombies and trying to survive the apocalypse. We dont need an intricate plot. We're happy to root for our loveable characters as they wander the countryside on some mission or another.

Roberta continues to have horrible visions of a "black rainbow" as the world is incinerated. We're not sure what it means but it is directing her to various locales. In the beginning of season 4, Warren and a now cured (ie non-blue) Murphy escape Zona. See my episode 1 review here

Next the crew heads for NewMerica but later abandons the idea to follow Warren. Mad Z's are on the loose. They're due to a mutation of the zombie virus. A women named Sarge joins our group. Addy has been MIA for most of the season. Is she ever coming back? Red and Sun Mei also disappear.

On their journeys Operation BiteMark encounter a number of strange scenarios. They end up in a lab and meet a creature composed of two scientists. One has like eight arms and the other is just a face that exists on the first guy's back. I can't do the explanation justice. You'll just have to see it to believe it. They meet some jugaloos and Warren almost gets married. They run into a bunch of nun Z's. They check out a TV station and we see some flashbacks of how the apocalypse began. Poor Carly McFadden.

In the most touching scene of the season (and possibly the entire series) Lucy gives her life to save her father. We want her age rapidly after biting Murphy over and over again. She finally dies as an old woman in his arms. I'm surprised "Z Nation" made this choice. I thought Lucy was end game. She will be greatly missed. And I'm not crying... YOU'RE CRYING!

We get a brief glimpse of Kaya in the Skya, Simon/Citizen Z (he's been away for two years), their child JZ and Nan. Uncle Kaskae was killed in a plane crash. May he rest in peace. Mad Zs have made it up north. Strange men arrive and take some info on disks. Are they from Zona? What do ya wanna bet Zona is behind everything bad that has happened?

And in this week's "Frenemies" our folks cross paths again with the hilarious low lives Sketchy and Skeezy. They're hanging out at a barber shop. While Roberta makes her way through some green foam, Murphy, Doc, 10K and Sarge try to process what's happening in the seemingly benign establishment. It quickly turns into a "Sweeney Todd" type situation. There's a giant Leprechaun-looking-dude in the attic shooting at them. There's a cellar full of zombies. And the barber is some murderous mobster.

There's tons of vomit in this episode as everyone recovers from the effects of the green foam. They are attacked by an equally repulsive and hilarious Tan Mom Z. BEST ZOMBIE EVER! Somebody deserves a raise for that creation. On the AfterbuzzTV "Z Nation" show, the producer mentioned that they should have gotten a shot of the back of the creature as well. It apparently had some finely developed butt muscles. Missed opportunity indeed!

Next some English dudes *or hillbillies) try to rob them again. I'm not sure which. Skeezy gets bitten by a Z. He shared a lip lock with Sketchy. Those two really do love each other after all. And then he's thrown out in to the green foam. But its all a con. They save the day and our friends. The guys take over the barber shop. Our crew continues on its way. Warren has a vision of a man is a hazmat outfit. It's Dr Teller. He tells her" You have to keep moving. Everything depends on you". Whatever that means.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). There are only 3 episodes to go this season. How will it all end? I do hope the zombie cheese wheel makes another appearance. We havent seen it in a while. We haven't heard if "Z Nation" will be renewed yet but they usually make us sweat it out. I hope so. I never cease to be entertained by these crazies.
