Channel Zero Butcher's Block Finale Review: Best Season Yet!

"Butcher's Block" is the craziest (and BEST) season of "Channel Zero" thus far. And that's saying something since I really liked "No-End House". See my previous reviews here

Sisters Alice and Zoe move to a new town in hopes of getting away from their past. Their mother Nora is committed to a mental hospital. Zoe has had previous mental health issues as well. And she was stabbed by Nora.

They soon learn that their new locale is less than ideal. They should have known that a place called "Butcher's Block" might have some problems. Landlady Louise(who is creepy in her own right) fills them in on some of the goings on.

The Peach family used to own the meat processing plant. The entire family disappeared in 1952 following the murders of patriarch Joseph's two daughters. Since then lots of strange things have occurred. People disappear, a mysterious white staircase appears in the park, you name it.

We eventually learn that the Peaches exists in some parallel world and survive by eating other people. They have a deal with their god. They provide him with a child sacrifice from time to time and he let's them keep living.

Zoe is first lured in by the family. Then Alice goes to save her. Both end up under their spell. Louise and police officer Luke are doing their best to get everyone out alive. Denise the Scissor Lady shows up at some point. Alice kills a student loan collector. I dont think anyone will fault her for that.

In the finale "Sacrifice Zone" Louise, Luke, Zoe and Scissor Lady vow to save Izzy (and make the Peaches pay for what they've done). We learn the family is really just a pawn of a deer horned creature called the Pestilence God. Just goes to show ya, everybody's got a boss-- even undead cannibals. He/she/it is not happy that Izzy (ie the sacrifice) got away. The debt must be paid.. so he causes all the Peaches to explode in spectacular fashion. Joe calls him a "sick fuck" before he gets his.

Alice looks at the God (even though Joe told her NOT TO). He says her brain is too fragile to comprehend the being. But of course, he cant follow directions-- typical millennial! The creature first appears as her Mom. Uh... RUN!!! Next it opens it's robe to reveal the universe, space, galaxies... I have no idea what it all means.

In the end, Izzy, Zoe, Luke and Louis sit down for a nice VEGETARIAN meal. Everyone has vowed not to eat meat for the rest of their lives. What about Grandma Peach? She's at the Summer Home sitting alone at the dinner table talking to herself. She doesnt realize no other Peaches will EVER return.

Meanwhile we see Alice at the hospital with Nora. The outcome she most feared has come true. "Anything is better than going insane". She has lost her mind. The audience is left wondering if anything we saw is true...or if it's just a schizophrenic vision. I thought Daddy Peach removed that from her brain during one of their dinners? Uhhh, I have no idea what's going on with this show.

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). LOVED IT!!! Rutger Hauer is excellent.Talk about scary! I'm still afraid of him from back in 2004 when "Salem's Lot" came out. Krisha Fairchild is also a standout as Louise. I really appreciate that "Butcher's Block" developed the characters enough so that we cared about them by the end. That's unusual on most shows (especially in the horror genre). The story and imagery of this season of "Channel Zero" knocks it out of the park. Not sure it's possible to improve on perfection.

Yes, I still have many questions that will never be answered. What exactly is Edie giving birth to? Is it to creatures like Smart Mouth? What happened to the Gardner dude who kept spouting riddles? And what is the Flesh Monster up to now? We see him walking through a field of grass at the end of episode. Is he off to more adventures?

Next season is based on the creepypasta "I found a hidden door in my cellar and I think I made a big mistake". I cant wait!!!
