How To Get Away With Murder Season 5 Winter Finale Review: Another One Bites The Dust

I must admit to wandering away during season 5. Don't get me wrong. "H2GAWM" has a great cast. Viola Davis is beyond wonderful. I would watch her just reading the phone book (if they still existed). It's just that network shows have too many episodes to hold my attention. "How To Get Away With Murder" averages 15 episodes per season (which is still better than the 22-23 we sometimes see). Plus Annalise's gang of upstart lawyers have killed so many people at this point it's almost impossible to keep track.

In the typical fast forward we see each season, someone is dripping blood. It looks like it may be new guy Gabriel. Of course, as we have learned over the past four years we cant believe what we see in the season openers.

Episode 8 "I Want To Love You Until The Day I Die" marks the midseason finale of the show. We finally learn what happened for sure in the fast forward. It all goes down at Connor and Oliver's wedding. Hey, at least those two kids are happy for a little while.

Bonnie is carrying baby Christopher (Laurel and Wes' son) through the snow. She sees a body on the ground. It is a badly beaten DA Miller. Nate tells her he ordered the death of Nate's father in prison (and shows her a picture). Bonnie finishes the deed by smothering Miller. Little does she know that he intended to propose to her and had the ring in his pocket. Ouch! Poor Bonnie can never catch a break. So I guess the rest of the gang (Michaela, Asher, Frank, Annalise, Connor and Oliver) will help with this coverup as well?

In the other major reveal of the episode we learn Gabriel's true identity. Gabriel is the son of Sam Keating (Annalise's husband-- who was offed in season 1) and his first wife Virginia Maddox. So is Gabriel planing to seek revenge on Annalise and crew? If so, he's taking his own sweet time.  I'm not really invested in this story line.

Grade:  4 Monsters (out of 5). The winter finale was the best episode of the season to date. We finally learn who died in the snow that night. What does the second half of season 5 have in store for us (besides trying to dodge justice over Miller's death)? I hope its not all focused on Gabrielle. If so...yawn!
